Inspira-Pad: Several Reasons I Love My iPad

Around a month ago, I can home to the very AWESOME SURPRISE of an iPad from my parents, and I haven't been able to separate from it since. I'll admit that I wondered how it would surpass the love I already had for my Mac, but when I started to explore everything I could do with it, I was pretty much SOLD. Here are my highlights:

Nylon for iPad

Nylon was one of the first iPad apps I downloaded, wondering what it would be like to read my favorite magazine electronically. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Not only do you view Nylon in pristine HD clarity, the iPad mag is filled with awesome goodies that enhance the print version. Scattered throughout are behind the scenes videos from featured photoshoots and interviews, tap through features that go right to the websites of the brands you love,and links to preview featured music straight away.

YouVersion Bible

YouVersion is one of the best Bible applications on the net, what with loads of translations to choose from, note taking, and connections to various studies, you'll always be refreshed in God on the go!

Flipboard

I cannot say enough about this amazing social networking application. Not only does it link up your various networking accounts, it organizes them into a stunning magazine-like interface, highlighting important posts across the board. There's no better way to keep up with all of my blogging/tweeting/tumbling faves!

Barnes & Noble Nook/ Amazon Kindle/ Apple iBooks

Can I tell you how awesome it is to finally have every single e-novel you own, no matter the carrier, in one place? Finally, I'm free to to purchase from any bookseller! But one thing that makes reading novels on the iPad extra special, are the additions that publishers include with iPad versions. Two awesome examples are Penguin's On the Road by Jack Kerouac, and the newly released Young Adult novel Chopsticks by Jessica Anthony and Rodrigo Corral ($6.99). The iPad edition of On the Road ($16.99) not only gives you the brilliant novel, but unseen peeks into Jack Kerouac's life, old photographs, sound bites of his own recordings, and interactive maps that trace his journey within the novel. With the novel Chopsticks, you get to experience a completely different interpretive expression of what a novel is. Told in stunning photographs, old news paper clippings, and music clips, this haunting love story allows you to interact with the story. You can sort though photographs, watch instant message conversations as if you are privvy to their private moments, and more. (I'll have a more in depth review of Chopsticks on Novel Days very soon). Though it doesnt replace print, it definitely compliments it.

Diaries/ Organizers

I feel, for the first time, that I have a shot at being an efficient blogger. I don't know what it is about these little devices, but they make you want to be more organized. Reminders and Calendar are pretty awesome organizers. I've since begun to plan posts for my various blogs well ahead of time, and it feels so good!

For my lovely Fashion Bloggers out there, you'll love Christian Dior's, Dior Addict Diary. It's such a beautiful planenr, with a new gorgeous photograph accompanying each day. (Con: There are some glitches, which include deleting past entries at times. I just record my plans in both Calendar, and Dior).

NoteShelf

As you all may know, I'm crazy for journals! I love personalizing them, pasting in photographs, getting out my glittery pens and going to town! NoteShelf ($5.99) allows me to do just that on the iPad. Of course, it does not take the place of print journaling, but every year, I try and find a different way to journal...this allows me to explore a new form! NoteShelf allows you to create loads of journals, choose different kinds of pages, from simple lined/plain, to notation or even sports centric interfaces. The shot above is a picture of what I'm calling my LookBook: all of my style inspirations/loves in one place. Another awesome app is Bamboo Paper! Perfect for all of you artists out there! Bamboo has even created a Stylus especially for this application.

iAWriter

For all my writers out there who tire of bringing their laptops with them everywhere, you will love iAWriter ($8.99). It offers a clean, writing space, for undisturbed writing! I love it. Makes it easy to flesh out your characters, or that new string of dialogue, or even record fresh ideas into an application that doesn't seem un-user friendly.

I've named my iPad, Celia, a.k.a the Inspira-Pad, because I literally carry all of my inspirations with me. Within seconds, I can jot an idea down, view beautiful photography, listen to my favorite music, or watch wonderful films. It has most of the tools needed to get to work, and bring out the productivity in you (the networking problem will never be eliminated ;-)).

For the month of February, I'm thrilled to kick off DreamCatcher 2012 with a Q&A from one of my dearest friends. I've been privileged to observe her journey towards creating her wonderful shop, and blog, Miss Kismet. I couldn't wait to record a piece of her journey for you all to be inspired to go after your own.

In you own words, I am a DreamCatcher because: ...I am actively realizing my dreams everyday. I don't say pursuing because that can imply that I'm trying, when I'm doing. My dreams may not be that big, but I am chasing them.

Tell us a bit about your journey towards becoming Miss Kismet: It's so hard to put into words the long journey that is still far from over. Miss Kismet is more than the name of my little business, it's the embodiment of an idea. And that idea is my personal goal to stay true to myself while keeping my dream of working for myself intact. As you know, I opened up shop on Etsy under the name Cinderbella's a little over a year ago, and that jump I took--into something I knew very little about--empowered me. I was at a place in my life where I was lacking confidence and direction. I believe that stemmed from the fact that I wasn't actively chasing any dream I had, and thus I felt like something was missing. Now, that void has been filled.

What draws you to entrepreneurship via jewelry making and photography? Simply put: the need to create. I am first and foremost a girly girl. I love to dress up and I have always worn jewelry, almost 24/7. I used to dream of being a fashion designer, but I quickly found out that I wasn't that great at sewing (I still can't write in a straight line on unlined paper), and that I wasn't built to work for others. Not long before starting my shop I discovered photography, and it's actually in my blood. My mother is a phenomenal photographer, but unlike her, my eye is drawn toward nature. I used to ignore it a lot of times, now I appreciate all the beauty that can be found that's not manmade. Stepping into the roles of photographer and jewelry designer are now just a natural part of my life. It was always there, I just had to find it.

What are the challenges, and better, the rewards of deciding to spearhead your own future by opening your own Etsy/Standalone Shop? The challenges are first taking the leap to open and embark on this new adventure. When you're doing it alone it's up to you to make sure that package goes out, that email is answered, and that customer is happy. I, of course, have the support of my family, but Miss Kismet is a one girl show consisting of me. I am the designer, photographer, editor, shipper, packer, writer, customer service, etc. But with all of that the rewards far outweigh any stress that can occur. I love hearing from a first time, or third time customer, that they love the item they purchased from me and that they'll be returning. It puts a smile on my face, and is the mojo that keeps me going.

Do you have any advice for future shop owners? Don't be afraid. Fear is the enemy of the creative. Fear is the enemy of any dream. Don't get caught up trying to compare your business with others. Each person is unique, and therefore your products, image, strategy and goals are going to be different as well. Have fun in the discovery and enjoy the journey.

What are some of your other aspirations, and what steps do you take towards making your dreams a reality? I love to write! I have been writing since I was in high school, and my dream is to one day soon have a published novel. Whether it's published by a high class agency or by myself doesn't matter. I want to see my name in print, not in lights, and I know that one day it will be. With that in mind, I write whenever I can. And my goal for this year is to write when I feel the need to, not to force it. I'm all about organic creativity. You can't force what's real and there.

How do you overcome moments of doubt? It's hard, but I remind myself, though the steps I take may be small, I have taken steps toward my dreams not away. So why stop now, I ask myself. I also look through the emails, feedback and messages I've received from past customers and friends. The encouragement that I get from family as well as my trust in God are the beacons that lead me out of that place of doubt. Creating is a part of me, I can't stop, so why doubt?

This is Not A Review: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

(I know it's long. Bare with me :-)

"Almost everyone is obsessed with leaving a mark upon the world. Bequeathing a legacy. Outlasting death. We all want to be remembered. I do, too. That's what bothers me most, is being another unremembered casualty in the ancient and inglorious war against disease."- Augustus Waters

God knows exactly when you're about to flounder. At exactly the right moment, before it all spins out of control, He sends you a sign, gives you a gift, a person, a Word. I think that in this moment, whilst being so insecure about my novel, about it's meaning, it's ability to enamore or move someone, The Lord sent me my hope in the form of a glaze jacketed bound novel called, The Fault in Our Stars. John Green. He's a wunderkind whose every word is hailed as gold. But even with all the prizes, and a public who lifts his works as timeless classics of our generation, he still wavers. This novel, took ten years to create. Ten. Here I am wondering, pleading with myself to go forward, all but giving up the ghost at the slightest hint of challenge, angry that my novel emerged glinting in my mind almost five years ago, and why's it taking me so long what's wrong with me is the whole world mad or am I simply not filling my role correctly? (Yes, these thoughts of mine roll through without punctuation after a while.)

Yet this genius of a man had the very same thoughts, the very same desire to write a beautiful novel, and was willing to endure, or perhaps not endure, but experience the process of waiting, developing, and finally marrying the ideas of cancer, lived/unlived life, and two concepts, that became caricatures, that were filled in with dialogue and facets to become characters who live, breathe, and experience all this crazy, brilliant, hectic, frightening stuff that we all feel sometimes.

There is a novel that began the process of weaning me away from all that academia taught me...that showed me to breathe life into literature. (Such novel I'll not even mention as most see it as infantile drivel. Nevertheless, I credit it for teaching me to believe in my work, and to imbue my piece with life. For allowing even the embarrassing, cheese-ball, clichéd feelings to scratch across pages, because really what do we have to lose with being ourselves? What is the cost for being embarrassed and becoming incapacitated to a zealous, courageously lived life?). That novel began the process of teaching me to be an ecstatically word crazed novelist. The Fault In Our Stars is the novel that awakened my desire to a be a writer who not only entertains, but who evokes something meaningful.

I've always said that I would read John Green, and I have three of his other novels waiting on my shelf. But surely, this was the one I was supposed to start with first. This whole week, I grappled with how to make dialogue mean something. How to make those scenes that are but small nuggets of moments lived mean something. How do I create romance, a great love, without making it this superfluous thing that everyone turns away from because it is simply implausible? I'm still learning, but I've realized that this answer cannot be found away from the process. You write, and then you write it again, and you expound further until finally you're able to extract the meat of it. There are times when I would try and write scenes that I would want to scrap even as I went to write the first words. I thought to myself, why write this, there's no point, how does it link with the novel as a whole anyway? There are moments in the novel where Hazel and Augustus discuss heavy things, and then others where they simply discuss video games, but these moments were no less meaningful because they meant something to them. They were special because it was their own experience, and nothing is too minuscule to share.

I thank you, John Green, for having the courage to write this novel. For showing me a depiction of intelligent writing that is not pretentious. For showing me not to sleep on the so called "non eventful scenes' in my novel. For having me in mind because my character is a 'Grace' as well. For writing characters who seem at times to have a sarcastic attitude towards the existence of God, not because I agree, but because I want the opportunity to draw many to a very real God without preaching at them. For your portrayal of Hazel, and making it okay to not understand everything. For making Augustus one of the most handsome, thoughtful, intriguing characters I've ever made acquaintance with in a novel, and the reassurance that Augustuses exist all around us, everywhere. Thank you for reassuring me that a novel conceived over a long length of time is not a battle lost, but a battle to be fought, lived, and accepted until the end.

Britta Cooks: Cinnamon Vanilla Crepes

Hello Dreamers! Today I bring you another account of my ongoing culinary adventures.

When I was in the UK, I was privileged to meet some really awesome cooks. One of which made the very best crepes I've ever tasted. Don't think, I left without getting my friend, Paulynn Chen, to send me her recipe! I wanted to come home and surprise my parents with an elegant, and delicious European treat. I tweaked her recipe to explore a bit.

One of the things I enjoyed most about making this dish is that it is entirely simple:

1 Cup of All Purpose Flour
1 Cup of Milk
1 Egg
2 Tablespoons of Sugar (or to your liking)
Ground Cinnamon
Vanilla Extract

First, sift your flour into a mixing bowl, as this will remove any lumps. Crack the egg, mix into the flour, and then gradually pour the milk in as you whisk quickly until smooth. When it comes to Cinnamon, Vanilla Extract, and Sugar, it's really up to you. As you mix, the fragrance that rises smells like home, and warm cider, or freshly baked cookies. I poured an estimated tablespoon of Vanilla Extract, and sprinkled cinnamon to my hearts content. Butter your pan, and pour mixture into the center of the pan, rotating a nonstick skillet, over a medium flame, until it thinly coats the bottom of the pan. Once finished, fold the crepe in fours (in half, and then again), placing them decoratively on your plate. Sift a bit of powdered sugar until it lightly coats them, top with whipped cream, and cinnamon.

I loved every bit, though, I will have to practice in order to get them to Mama Chen's out of this world standard! I sat to the table, sipping English Breakfast tea from one of my favorite tea cups, and wondered at what it will be like to cook from scratch for my family more often. There's an awesome sense of accomplishment as the spices flavor the air around you, bone white egg shells sit on the counter, and flour sticks to your whisk.

As an added ambience, I played the Jane Monheit Pandora Radio station which completely sets the mood with timeless, smooth jazz. Though, I cannot replay all of the songs that played as I cooked, I did create a wonderful 8 Track Playlist called: Crepes for Brunch.

This playlist is filled with songs by Jane Monheit, Stevie Wonder, Norah Jones, even a few scores like Pride and Prejudice, and Like Crazy.

Hello my darling dreamers! I hope that your New Years weekend was awesomely blessed!

I wanted to start my first post of the year off with a positive, effervescent bang! First off, I wanted to alert you of a new feature that I have been considering over the past year. If you read Forelsket, you know that one of my absolute passions is to inspire, and encourage you to live an amazing life, to conquer gargantuan feats through God, and to go after your dreams with fervor and abandon. That being said, the latest feature on Forelsket will be the DreamCatcher Series 2012. With this feature, I will spotlight one special DreamCatcher a month who is going after their dreams with gusto. There are so many people around us everyday who live their lives with stars in their eyes, hearts brimming to love, to inspire, and working hard to see the realized dream. I wanted to shine the spotlight on them, knowing that their stories encourage me, and will hopefully encourage you to do the same.

Analogue Life

Hello Dreamers!

I hope that your holidays have been blessed, and totally beautiful!

It's time for renewal once again as the New Year approaches, and I'm reevaluating how I would like to engage in life with the coming days. There are so many plans that I have for a more positive future, but the main one on my mind right now is to engage in a more 'analogue' life. Analogue, for me, has come to mean, the act of experiencing life hands on, without analyzing, and trying to work out every detail of it. Living life the way our elders experienced it: taking in the process and moving with it.

Over the holidays, I was blessed to finally take my LK (LomoKino) out for a spin, and I realized something. As much as I know the results are bound to be beautiful and fresh, there was a part of me that was impatient with the process of having to wait to get it developed; Of not knowing exactly how it would turn out. But this is how art, or really anything of such worth is created: time, effort, waiting, development. Living in our technologically spaced generation is a blessing and a curse. We're in a place to see anything come to fruition, but we want it to materialize in front of us instantly, as opposed to taking the time to infuse authenticity.

We want friendships but we don't want the process of being a friend. We want to find true love, but romance has taught us to cleave on to love at first sight, instead of the time it will take to build love gradually after you've locked eyes, and time has stopped. We look in awe at sumptuous meals prepared, and wish that we could 'Bewitch' our noses, and watch as it magically appears on our dining room tables. We wonder at times why we may feel lonely, but we're strapped down to our computer chairs, hands all but soldered to our keyboards as we choose to connect over Tumblr, but not face to face.

That's why in 2012, I would like to change these aspects of myself that has come to value quantity over quality, and 'now now now' over the process.

I want to write letters, pen, sticky blue ink, and stationary with stamps and envelopes. I want to create quixotic little films with LK that take multiple rolls of 35mm film to piece together. I want to actually cook my meals, watch them simmer, package a dessert in ribboned celophane to give to my grandmother, or cupcakes for my friends. Explore museums and dive into art, take some time to watch selected films in theaters. Meander through my city without abrupt rushing from one train to another. Cultivate style like my grandmother, and great grandmother did. Connect with people without technology getting in the way. Flesh out all of my characters, and appreciate the feeling of my pen ingraining the page as I take down my novel. Trust God beyond what I can see or fathom, and watch Him bring the utmost to fruition.

Of course I'm not going to leave my trusty Macbook behind, I love my Tumblr/Twitter world, but I'm not in favor of watching it replace life experience. Life's too short to keep living in fear, don't you think?

"Nothing Makes Me Stronger Than Your Fragile Heart..."

I'm sure you guys already saw this coming, and perhaps wondered what was taking me so long to post a Breaking Dawn tribute. I cannot contain my excitement right now! What makes this all the more exciting is that I didn't spend the past year fangirling so hard that by the time I actually see the film, I'm simply 'whelmed.' I wasn't a huge fan of Breaking Dawn, and whenever I think about it, I just think...'what?' Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed the wedding, the honeymoon, and all of the stomach fluttering romance! Everything I've seen thus far looks so beautiful, I can't wait. I feel like this will be some of the best performances we've seen out of our favorite people. It's weird, but I feel like I'll probably cry through most of the heart-wrenching scenes. I'll even be the dork and admit that I feel like someone close to me is getting married. I can't help it...

The Breaking Dawn Soundtrack, as is usual of Twilight soundtracks, is wonderful! There are so many beautiful love songs and instrumentals. My favorites include Iron & Wine's special wedding rendition of 'Flightless Bird, American Mouth,' Christina Perri's 'A Thousand Years,' Carter Burwell's 'Love Death Birth,' and Turning Page by Sleeping At Last. Turning Page is especially beautiful, and I couldn't help doing a ukulele cover of it. It perfectly embodies Edward's love for Bella, and is Midnight Sun in song. It's my first cover in a long while, but I'm happy with it!

LOMO Weakness: Lomokino

I've just discovered this wonderful analog device that I couldn't stop myself from posting. Lomography brings us the best in analog photography/cameras that allow us to recapture the nostalgia of past photography. Clouded, dreamy, lovely photographs ala The Virgin Suicides film. I never thought it could get any better than capturing my moments in photography, but I was totally wrong. The LomoKino allows for mini films fused into 35mm film. Can you imagine, your own beautiful 'silent' films of moments you want to live on forever? Think of how your outfit posts would take on an ethereal quality, your walks to the park, that bookstore tucked into a side street...Check out these beautiful mini films:

Perfect Dream Space

If you could create a space that inspired you to do what you love, how would you decorate? What would you add? What would make this space so much more than just four walls surrounding a desk and chair? I find looking at artists' spaces so intriguing, because it's like being invited to enter their minds.

Like my good friend, Casee Marie, who's been spending her own time exploring Pinterest, I've found this website to be an online version of my creator space. Not to mention, I have this thing for pin boards. I'm about to makeover my room, and I've played around with ideas for some weeks now. I would love to paint one wall of my room a color close to Tiffany Blue, while I contrast it with a traditional creme color. I want to get rid of my dresser and television stand, and replace it with lighter, daintier pieces. I would like to buy a pinboard to decorate myself, and add loads of things like famous writer rejections (to remind myself that with every critic, there's means to grow), pictures that fuel my dreamscapes, stanzas of poetry, Bible verses, etc; I would like to place little glass bottles filled with white roses around; purchase a wall stand for my ukulele, get a little desk for my computer, a cup of fountain pens, and a chair. I would love to go to a wonderful cafe called, Alice's Tea Cup, and purchase a bottle of their fairy dust, just for the idea of it. And lets not forget, a fabulous bookcase! This would be the perfect time to go to Anthropologie to pick up a few whimsy odds and ends, don't you think?

I've got my pen in hand, ready to scrawl all sorts of beauties and lives across parchment. Slather them across my screen, water-colored chimera for all the world to see. I have my vision in toe, written down, etched into my mind, an endless repetition of what I want to do, and what I want to see. However, it's not too long before I find myself looking back at the Lord, Who gave me the will to desire these dreams, as if He's looking at my baby and wants me to sacrifice it. Abraham to Isaac. But one important factor lies in the midst of this significant account, the Lord stops Abraham from killing his gift, and says, "I wanted to see that at the end of the day, you are totally and completely willing to give Me everything."

As we move forward with our dreams, it's very important to remember Who has filled us with those dreams and desires in the first place. It's so easy for many of us to take the reigns towards an uncertain future, instead of allowing the One Who has, without doubt, planned such an extraordinary journey for you, He can't wait to show you. He only needs for you to take His hand, and let Him guide you into His miraculous dream.

Don't be afraid, because the Lord has a hope and a future for you. In His timing, it will all come to fruition in such a manner as cannot be comprehended.

Dream Again, Dream Catcher

So, you've started....and stopped. Started with gusto, fervor, zest....and then life got in the way. Insecurity, and voices from people less than thrilled that you've decide to jump out into oceans and obtain what's yours, have infiltrated your mind.

I've been writing my novel for the past five years. I began with such enthusiasm that no one could tell me I wouldn't have been a New York Times Bestseller by the end of that year. Then, I started to wonder if my writing could stand with all of those writer/geniuses out there. I took it to school, where I was affirmed, but I couldn't get the critiques out of my mind. I have since completed Graduate School where I was truly challenged to the point that I wondered if I should find another passion. One thing stands true now: I still want to write, and I will be published by this time next year, God Willing.

What do you want to do? What do you dream about? What sets your heart on fire, and captures your imagination in a way that nothing else has? This is your dream. This is one of the things you were created to do. It's taken me a long while to distance my actions from the critiques and negativity of others. You should always keep your ears open for constructive criticism of those who desire to see you succeed, but I recommend you obstinately close your ears to those who have negative intentions.

The Lord has created beauty even out of your short comings, your failings, and your seeming defeat. He has planned the grandest future of all for you. Trust Him, and look to His affirmation more than you look to the words of others to dictate your destiny. I challenge you today to sit down, and write out three of your greatest goals that you would love to see accomplished by next year this time. Pray about each one according to the Will of the Lord. And then...make sure to take one step towards completing one of them before the day ends.

You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. I love you, and I'm supporting you! I would love to know your progress. Do not lose heart.

As much as I affirm the dreamer, it's time to catch all of your sparkling, wonderful dreams, and push them into reality. Go on, you can do it!

Britta Cooks: Tortilla Soup

In this latest feature on Forlesket, I thought I might chronicle my adventures in the culinary arts. I spend most of my time running away from the stove, not because I can't cook, but just because I never think to do it to the extent that my Dad does. My Dad is the King of the Pot in my eyes, injecting chickens with robust marinades, frying turkeys during Thanksgiving, and adding dark chocolate to savory stews. When I went to the UK, I befriended a few lovely women who I credit for enhancing my Welsh experience with wonderful food! These women, my Dad, and a bunch of beautiful photographs on Tumblr, inspired me to try my hand at actually cooking for the love and experience of tasting.

Whimpy Side: Heidi of Tilly and Kira had a hand in inspiring me as well. Her daily musings or crafting, baking, and overall whimsy delight make me smile! Please check her out!

Some months back, I came across a Vogue article showcasing Kristen Stewart's recipe for Tortilla Soup, and I endeavored to try my hand at it. I almost wish that Kristen would find a way to showcase all of her recipes, seeing as her co-stars have nothing but rave reviews of her culinary skills.

I'm in love with Mexican food, and so this savory soup promised to be a mind-blowing addition to culinary repertoire.

Kristen Stewart's Tortilla Soup recipe is PHENOMENAL! It serves as a fragrant mixture of flavors and seasons. Tangy, pungent flavors of lime blending with cilantro, cumin, and diced jalapenos gave me the feel of a warm summer night. Meanwhile, sprinkles of grated cheese mingling with the crunch of tortillas, green peppers, and flavorful broth is perfect for a Autumn or winter's night. My Dad told me that it reminded him of a cozy night-in, snuggling a blanket. My Mom's dubbed it 'Her Soup,' as she's a vegetarian, and would like for me to make this at least once a month. I love that this soup is a lot healthier than what I would normally choose for a night's meal, and it showed me that the right blend of seasonings can make a vegetarian dish incredibly flavorful.

Hmm....I wonder what I'll make next?!

I cannot tell you how excited I am for the release of Haruki Murakami's latest masterpiece, 1Q84 on October 25th! There was a kind of mysterious allure around this novel that first intrigued me enough to learn more about it. There were so many awesome reviews about it from those who got the chance to read this in Japan, that expectancy soon grew here in America. Really, I wanted to read a novel that would pose a challenge to finish by the end of the year. I'm sure that 1Q84 cannot be the challenge that War and Peace would pose, but it's up there with a whopping 944 pages of pure Murakami lyricism. It's one of those novels that the bibliophile in me, can't wait to hold, and stare at the cover for a while before I read. Hardcovers will do that to a person!

Haruki Murakami is known for mythologizing his native Japan, creating worlds where hidden beautiful magic can rise from the cracks at anytime, blending realities, and opening characters up to dual realms. He's one of my writing inspirations because the music of his words cannot be denied. His writing is simplistic and yet sensational, which suits his extraordinary themes that are often tinged with bleak hopefulness. I have an appreciation for Japanese writers, because from my observations, they have a penchant for turning the ordinary world into something extraordinary with beauty and color. I desire to imbue my own writing with this wonderful talent. After reading Sputnik, Sweetheart, I vowed to read all of his work, and so I jumped at the chance to be a part of the release of 1Q84.

It's interesting that he uses George Orwell's 1984 as inspiration. I'm a HUGE fan of dystopian literature. However, knowing Murakami, he promises to make this an unpredictable ride that makes you think, that frightens you a little bit, and that makes you want to forge through with Tengo and Aomame. (Of course, I'm always the softy for a romance!). I'm looking forward to reading late into the night with an incredulous expression on my face, shaking my head.

Sartorial Lit: Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Sartorial Lit is a new feature at Forelsket that combines fashion with fiction.

Delirium by Lauren Oliver, is about a girl named, Lena, who lives in a world quite similar to our own, but with one difference...Love has become the fatal disease, Amor Deliria Nervosa, with a cure that all citizens are expected to undergo when they turn 18. Lena is excited for her own cure...until she meets, Alex, and experiences this troublesome force called Love for the first time.

Delirium has had my mind in the clouds! I've thought of revolutions and serendipitous meetings that make you want to conquer the world. It made me wonder what it would be like to live in a world where, Amor Deliria Nervosa, is cured, and one must experience love, music, and pretty much anything that produces a strong sentiment, underground. As much as this could be problematic, think of the adventure that this could pose? Secret concerts, discussions of banned literature, long walks in the woods, galaxies of glowing stars waiting for you and your soulmate, with the threat that it could all vanish with the slip of the tongue. As crazy as it seems, it also seems beautiful if you know where to look.

Romance can imbue your ways of life. It can cloud your mind, stain your books, or flow through your wardrobe with pastels, neutrals, and strong bursts the color of wine. After being inspired by the novel, I decided to attempt to give you a sartorial interpretation of Delirium.

Etsy designer, River of Romansk, has perfectly captured my experience of Delrium. Taking in the beauty that Lauren Oliver describes of Portland: glowing sunsets, stars so close you can reach up and place them in a bottle, and the whisper of love, I thought that neutral or soft colored fabric would be lovely. Wispy fabrics that undulate in the wind, with delicate details offering just a touch a femininity and the wonder of change. I imagine Lena as a natural beauty who's presence comes into shape with the passage of time. I can imagine she and Alex having a meeting in one of these gorgeous garments.

Where the garments would imbue a kind of romantic chimera, I thought that with the novel's many layers, the accessories would be more edgy to showcase the threat of the government's rule.

These beautiful accessories give a hint of edge without going overboard. The necklace and earrings retain the theme of a light and airy chimera. The ring and bracelets show the beginnings of an edgy rebellion. All choices retain their delicate nature, but they also have a touch of dissonance that reeks of a silent rebellion.

I imagined that nail varnish and makeup would give this style an edgier quality. Instead of being completely romantic by adding creme's, I thought that metallics, dark burgundy's, browns, or violets, lighter grays and other deeper colors would give this style a drama that would enhance a natural look with the aura of discovery.

With the natural terrain explored throughout the novel: booties, combat boots, and flats would finish off this Delirum style. I thought that these selections made for a truly eclectic outfit, blending romance and weathered styles. Nothing delicate here, as anything can happen at any moment. Yet, it's still imbuing a feminine beauty.

Delirium is potentially a wealth of outfit inspiration, and I would love to hear your suggestions. If you were living a romantic adventure tinged with mystery, and threatened by penalty of death, how would you translate this into style?

Happy Whimsy Day to Me: Meanderings + an Outfit post...well sort of...

Happy Birthday to me! I praise God for life, and for allowing me to turn another glorious year: 26. I must say that this years' birthday came easy with a sparkling sun and warm breezes, right before plunging into the crisp wind, burnt sienna colored Autumn it is today. I was privileged to share it with my sister and crime, Ash, as we made our way from 71st street to 23rd street (on foot, mind you!).

What's that I'm reading? The Hidden by Jessica Verday. Such a wonderful series, and a beautiful
accessory to my vintage look.

I had the MOST fun getting myself all dolled up to saunter through city streets slowly...as if I was someone to observe. I had to get my mom to help me fix my Victory Rolls, they prove most challenging, but in the end, I was happy with the result. My Dad bought me this lovely dress as a birthday present, and I admit, it's a little different than I'm used to, but change is inevitable.

First stop...Ladurée New York!

My last trip to the infamous Ladurée was in the majestically lovely tea room on the Champs Élysées. Pure Brilliance! I never imagined that my next visit would be on Madison Avenue, my own backyard. It's great to know I can have true macaroons whenever I get a taste for them. Whew, expensive though. This small luxury box of six ran for around $21, nevertheless, the birthday girl will have what she wants!

I love that if you look too closely at the outside of the shop, you'd never know it wasn't Paris! Ash got the chance to try them for the very first time, and she loved them! Now I can add a black box to my collection, which I plan to decorate my inspiration room/area with!

Our next stops took us to a long block of Thrift shops on 23 St and 2nd avenue. We frenzied through each one, hoping to find some thrifted treasures, and in some we did, but none would compare to the dream we found in the Opera House Thrift Shop. It's seriously, one of the best thrifting experiences in New York City. It's chock full of wonderful antiques, quirky odds and ends, and clothes that could've seriously been purchased on Madison at affordable rates. The beauty of it is that all of the sale proceeds go to the upkeep and creation of costumes for performances at the New York City Opera House. I love to know I'm taking part in someone's artistically profound experience at the Opera House. Ash and I went through their collection with glee, and she even found me a lovely pink dress from Forever 21 for $10! I can't get over it! Even though I'll now have to wait until next summer, God Willing, it's well worth it! I'll definitely be taking multiple trips there, and considering laying off of the commercial shops for a while.

My birthday was beautiful, and I look forward to other whimsy days!

Vintage Faves

I've really been getting my vintage on lately, and I have to admit, I love it! I feel so beautiful, its such a rush! Now, I'm ready to move on to heavier projects like Victory Rolls and wardrobe reenactment. It seems to take such artistry to be able to pull it off everyday, but one day/garment/pin curl at a time, ladies.

Here are two special editions to the Vintage Blogasphere:

Lisa Freemont Street has seriously made my Vintage life. How, you ask? She's posted a Victory Roll tutorial for bobbed hair. SCORE! I've just pilfered through the other videos, and her channel is a vintage treasury. She's an old fashioned girl, with the cutest accent, and admiration for all things Rockabilly/Vintage/Alternative. She's filmed a variety of looks, makeup tutorials from flashy to dewy, tips...such a glorious youtube channel! Next to, Casey of Elegant Musings, she will be one of my go-to's from now on in regards to vintage living. Another great hair reference are the ladies of the Vintage Hair LiveJournal! I actually found out about Lisa after posting a question about Victory Rolls. They showcase their own beautiful pictures of the styles they try out, and it's simply inspiring!

After checking out Lisa's channel, I noticed her review for a cosmetic line called Besame, and it seems like a dream. Besame is a line that prides itself on delivering the best vintage themed makeup. I'm talking authentic compacts/packaging, rouges, and lovely lipsticks all in shades that colored the 30s, 40s, and 50s. I would love to try out some of the products, as they seem authentic in quality, however their prices tend to be a bit expensive, possibly likened to the cheap ranges in Sephora. This Classic Color Lipstick retails for $22. Their 1930s Mascara ($18) has to be one of the most beautiful tubes I've ever seen, and I may take a chance on it, despite my normal disdain for mascara. Besame will be a definite future try for sure!

I know I continue to repeat myself, but in terms of style, this has been one of my very best decisions. Of course, I know when to switch it up and don my skinny jeans, and converses when I want to cool out. But, it's amazing to have such a wonderfully, transforming look to change it up. I may even try my hand at blending the two styles to truly make it my own!

A Rainy little evening at the Blue Note + Updates

Tonight was quite a beautiful night indeed. My Sis, Ashley, took me out to see the lovely Jane Monheit at the legendary Blue Note lounge. The Blue Note is an iconic jazz lounge in New York City. Every jazz great has stepped inside of its' walls with their bass,' saxophones, and lulling piano melodies to perform.

Jane Monheit has one of the most classic voices...almost like the Judy Garland of our time, except in Jazz. It was lovely to sit merely steps from her, and her band, and hear the most beautifully smooth music. She performed one of the greatest renditions of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," that I've ever heard. At the end of the night, Ash and I even got her to autograph our books and cd! She's a wonderfully down to earth person, it's refreshing to see!

I'm sure that a great deal of my wedding songs will be collected from her portfolio of masterpieces! You fall in love, you dance a jig, you dream...all of the things done when in the presence of an Artist with clearly God given talent.

During the past week, I've also achieved a huge goal of mine: Interviewed an author for a Q&A! Novel Day's has only been open for one week and already it has 21 followers, 4 book reviews, and an interview with the awesome Rebecca Donovan. Rebecca has written an ambitious, heart wrenching, and astounding novel called Reason to Breathe, about a young woman dealing with abuse and the people in her life who remind her to love. I couldn't put it down, and the ending is mind-blowing. After I finished I had to seek out the author to discover more answers about her cast of characters and writing process, and I was blessed to get in contact and have her gladly accept my request of an interview! It was a brilliant experience. By God's Grace, there will be many more to come!

Summer, Invisible Dissertations, and Newbies

Hello Dreamers!

How's your summer coming along? Mine has been pretty busy as I've returned home at the end of July! It's been a real kick to see my family and friends after being away for so long.

Updates

The first thing I did when I arrived back in NY was get my hair relaxed (Thank God!) and cut into a cute little bob. I've been having such fun doing Dita Von Teese inspired hairstyles. I totally see myself making the transformation to vintage living bit by bit. There's a sense of romantic drama that comes with curling your hair for no reason save to look and feel beautiful. I purchased my subtle cat eye sunnies from Urban Outfitters in pink for $14. A few years ago you couldn't catch me wearing sunglasses! Loving this change! I've also been wearing more flowing dresses, yet in the past, I was a bit self conscious about my legs. I think I'm living my most confident summer yet!

Novel Days

I've really started to consider my reasons and purposes for blogging. I'm constantly inspired by Casee Marie (The Girl Who Stole the Eiffel Tower) and Jen of Style Through Her Eyes, and Gabrielle of Cinderbella's. They each have a way of imbuing their personality into their content, all the while maintaining a professional presentation. I tend to frequent loads of fashion blogs because I adore them, however I never felt completely at home enough in this genre to pursue it professionally. I've wondered where to place Forelsket, and I've decided that it is truly a place for my inspirations with hopes that it will inspire others to live their lives to the fullest. Nevertheless, I wanted a blog that could be used as a portfolio of sorts on a professional level. I have no idea why this came as such an epiphany, but the thing that comes most naturally to me is reading and writing. What's the best choice for me? Book Blogging. I'm sure none of you are surprised!

I wanted to find a community kind of like the Independent Fashion Bloggers, as they have done a fantastic job of creating a networking haven for bloggers. After scouring the net, I learned that book bloggers have tons of similar communities. I'm very excited about this because there's nothing I would love more than to work with books for the rest of my life (When I'm not writing them, of course)! There's an event called Book Blogger Appreciation Week that just happens to start on my birthday this year. If that's not a sign, I don't know what is!

With this in mind, I've gone ahead and made my Novel Days category into an actual blog! It feels so right. I've been making goals of where I would like to see it (God Willing) a year from now. I would love to have the opportunity to interview authors, receive Review copies of novels before their release, a chance to be a nominee during Book Blogger Appreciation Week 2012, and the opportunity to go to book conferences. I'll share my journeys with you every step of the way.

From now on, all of my book reviews will be posted at Novel Days...speaking of Reviews: I have one up for Passion by Lauren Kate, feel free to check it out!

In the Midst of all of this, I've a 20,000 word dissertation due by September 30th. It's funny how these lovely little distractions come to blind you to what you should be focused on.

Spotlight: 'Our Deal'-Best Coast Music Video

This tale begins with two rival gangs: one to rule the day, and one to rule the night. Soon after, an incredibly dreamy song becomes the soundtrack of fights, wars, and the glory of young love.

I heard this song while channel surfing past MTV tonight. I adored the fusion of 50s and 60s sounds. I pictured sock hops and poodle skirts, or a swinging beach party, and I said, why not? I looked up the song and discovered that the amazing Drew Barrymore directed the video, and starred adorable youngsters: Chloe Moretz, Tyler Posey, and Miranda Cosgrove. This video embodied such classic rival stories like The West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet, but stayed fresh. The fashion is ridiculous (in an awesome way), fusing the classics of the 50s, 60s, and 80s. I'm sure there's some other influences tucked away in there some how.

I got a kick out of watching this story unfold, and feeling my heart plunge into my stomach at the ending.

Novel Days Book Review: The Day Before by Lisa Schroeder

What would you do the day before your entire life could change? Wallow...stress out over the bits and bobbles...or celebrate? Lisa Schroeder's novel, The Day Before, chronicles one girls' day of fear-busting celebration and unrelenting support.

This novel is full of tender moments that I could back and smile over. Amber, a girl seeking to leave 'making sense of things' for the next day, was a great character to follow. She's inspiring, interesting, and relatable in her desire to be swallowed up in her day of refreshing exploits. Amber meets Cade whilst watching for jellyfish in an aquarium. Cade is intriguing in his immediate (but believable) connection with Amber. Yet, he is troubled which adds to his dynamic. I wondered at the circumstances that seemed to haunt his character even as he met with the effervescent spirit that Amber carries.

Overall, the novel is simplistically lyrical. It is such an awesome experience to read a novel written entirely of verse. It takes a wonderful writer to write in this manner! I loved the romance between Amber and Cade...not overly dramatized but just enough to engage in a once in a lifetime experience. It was apparent how much they meant to each other even after having met up for a day.

The novel inspired me to decide on an adventure of my own where I take along a backpack, a book and and open heart.

The Day Before is a refreshing read, and just the reminder needed to get you appreciating every facet of life.

Suggestion: As Lisa Schroeder, herself, suggested to me, read whilst downing a bag of Jelly Belly beans.

I give the novel 5 out of 5 stars.

Novel Days Book Review: The Subterraneans by Jack Kerouac

Written over the course of three days and three nights, The Subterraneans was generated out of the same kind of ecstatic flash of inspiration that produced another one of Kerouac's early classics, On the Road. Centering around the tempestuous breakup of Leo Percepied and Mardou Fox--two denizens of the 1950s San Francisco underground--The Subterraneans is a tale of dark alleys and smokey rooms, of artists, visionaries, and adventurers existing outside mainstream America's field of vision.

The Subterraneans is an exciting, frantically paced novel written as if driven to get it all down and out before it simply dissipates. Kerouac is known for his spontaneous prose, and this novel is one of the greatest examples of this practice: fragmented, unformatted paragraphs, and sentences that seem to run on for days and days. Nevertheless, these are the facets of Kerouac that I cannot help but be intrigued by.

One of the most important factors of this novel is Kerouac's depiction of an interracial relationship in the 50s, a time when it was unheard of, or kept in shadows. It was most fascinating to read of Leo's attraction to Mardou and also his internal struggle with possibly loving a Afro-Cherokee woman. I appreciated this depiction even more as the novel didn't focus on their obvious differences.

Mardou is depicted as this elusive 'Queen' of the Subterranean subculture. She is intelligent and fiesty, a figure that the characters seemed both intrigued and put off by. Beyond this mythologized figure, Mardou is broken---often fearful of nervous breakdowns, sewed to her therapist like a misplaced hemline. She, like many in the subculture, battles drug addiction, and although living the life, often strapped for cash. I found her to be just as fascinating as the other characters seemed to. I felt that as much as Kerouac divulged of her, there was so much more that we didn't know or understand about her upbringing and her own aspirations.

Leo and Mardou are two broken people in a fragmented love that everyone knows is doomed from the start, but it doesn't stop them from diving in. By the end, it seemed Mardou would be a woman that haunts his psyche as time passed. Each seemed a lesson in relating to people: Regardless of good intentions, they would eventually hurt one another.

Kerouac included great ponderings on what it meant to be in a relationship with someone, jealousy, and the power that a woman has over a man: "...a man may act stupid and toptippity and bigtime 19th century boss type dominant with a woman but it won't help him when the chips are down--the loss lass'll make it back, its hidden in her eyes, her future triumph and strength--on his lips we hear nothing but 'of course love.'" Beautiful fragmented prose, bursting of prisms and beat. I also loved reading of Leo's interactions with the many characters with in the Subterranean world. What can be more fascinating to an artist, than read of trips to crazy/beautiful jazz clubs, discussing novels, music and art? Some of their more negative behavior had me shaking my head.

Overall, Kerouac made me fall in love with him, want to read everything he's ever written, and discover the other characters of the novel. One awesome facet of his novels is that they are semi autobiographical, so you can always discover them in a real context.

I give the novel 4 out of 5 stars- Rated R...obviously!

I'm so excited to present the reading picks of some of my best friends and blogger/entrepreneurs! It's inspiring to see how and why a novel inspires each of us in different ways. I hope that you enjoy reading through these awesome entries, and I thank every single one of you girls for submitting to Novel Days!

I am such a bookworm, with so many favorites to list, that I decided to share what I'm reading now instead of an all-time favorite. I'm currently re-reading Mary Balogh's novella A Matter of Class. I'm a sucker for romance, and if it's set in a historical time period I can finish a novel - no matter the size - in one sitting. Happy endings are the only kind of endings that make me happy. I guess I'm a bit optimistic and a bit of a dreamer, so that's why the books I read have to be able to transport me to another time and place. Life can be hard at times, and yes happy endings aren't always waiting at the end, but in a book you can find those things and rejoice with the characters. Sometimes I share my thoughts on what I've read at my blog. Though I cannot promise I'll make sense, I hope that my passion and excitement shows through.

I am reading two books. I like to read several books at the same time, to me it's like channel surfing. Right now it is War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy and Extremely loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. Because War and Peace is famously one of the longest novels, it would be way too heavy for me to carry around so the Kindle App on my android phone allows me to pick up wherever I've left off. I'm not sure what page I'm on but my Kindle app says I'm 3% done and I've read A LOT so far. There are so many characters to keep up with but the smooth dialogue feels natural and very much like listening in on a big conversation. Then I switch gears from 19^th century Russia to 2001 in New York. I did some internet research on Foer after he made an appearance at my college last year promoting his then new book Eating Animals. I felt like EL&IC was a good place to start with him and I was right. I've fell in love with smart little Oskar and all the quoteables in the book. "I regret that it takes a life to learn how to live." Ugggh that is CHURRRRCH! I'm on page 210 and excited to finish it up.

I’m re-reading AMERICAN GODS for the second time, but this time, it is my own copy and it happens to be the tenth anniversary edition. It contains more content from the author than previously published editions, so I’m excited to have it in my hands and be able to read it again. I received it in the mail while I was away on a trip, so I opened it when I arrived back at home. I started to read Neil Gaiman’s work, starting with CORALINE, when I was in high school, but I was introduced to SANDMAN while still in junior high school. Still, I didn’t start to read his writing until high school. Maybe I started a bit late? Who knows, and who cares? He’s one author whose books will be on my shelves for a long time. His writing is, admittedly, not the best but the stories still grab me. I love fairy tales and mythologies, so when I found out he’s an author who plays around with them in his writing, I got hooked easily. Alas, I bought this one from Amazon, since independent bookstores in my area are hard to come by, especially if you want to be economical with your driving at the same time.

This photo encompasses one of my most adored combinations in life...Jane Austen and a steaming cuppa Joe! The romance of my favorite Austen novel, Emma, has delighted me for nearly two decades. I never get tired of reading about the precocious Miss Woodhouse and her dashing Mr. Knightley! Le sigh.

I call Jane Eyre my favorite novel for many reasons, not least of which is Charlotte Brontë’s exquisite creation, the narrator, the protagonist: Jane Eyre. I see in her a small bit of myself, my reticence and the inner-tremendousness of my own being, but in her I also see a strong, fiercely loyal and determined woman – one that I greatly admire and strive to resemble in my day-to-day life. The way she grows in boldness throughout the novel inspires me to tap into my own valiance. We can all learn a lot from Jane – and from Rochester, for that matter. Besides their eminent romance (which is also a favorite element of the novel). Jane and Rochester both represent two very life-changing personalities. I never cease to be fascinated by the way they evolve, both together and apart, throughout the story. Meeting them all over again every time I revisit the world of Jane Eyre makes for one of the most enchanting reading experiences I’ve ever known.

I've decided to write about my first novel purchase since being confined to a Kindle. As Forelsket readers, you can tell that I have an affinity for Mr. Kerouac. Aside from thinking him a total dreamboat of whom I would've gladly danced with during the On the Road years, I find his writing absolutely magical. Kerouac never fails to take us underground into the elusive, exclusive life of the Beats. He always makes me want to find a lounge tinged in smokescreens and saxophones that lull you into relationships that you may or may not regret come daylight. So far, my reading of The Subterraneans is pretty trippy, what with the novel having been written over the course of three consecutive days in 'an ecstatic flash of inspiration.' There's nothing better than reading the work of someone who's decided to give us a sincere glimpse of life without the gleaning of editors. So far, I'm finding this novel pretty fascinating, and I might possibly blog a review of it once I've finished!

Uke|Affairs: Evergreen Love by Misty Miller & Before You Know by All Young Girls Are Machine Guns

Hello Darlings!

My world's been all aflutter with my upcoming move back home! There will be an epic scroll of a post dedicated to my time in Bangor, Gwynedd and the wondrous places I've grown to love whilst being here. But I've taken some seconds away from packing to record two ukulele covers!

I wrote of my love for Misty Miller in this ukulele spirited post! Her voice is so soothing, along with the rich, tinkling strums of her fingers across ukulele strings! It makes for magic, my friends. I adore songs that are simplistically beautiful, with the intrigue of a kindred spirit sitting in front of you whilst laying themselves bare as they read out a scribbled poem. I learned Evergreen Love, both because it's lovely, and to continue on my fingerpicking quest. I've gotten ton's better at it!

This next band may receive a post entirely dedicated to their awesomeness! Before You Know is a cover by All Young Girls Are Machine Guns. I was drawn to them upon first glance of their genius name, but their music is totally not what I expected. I think the name seems to conjure the image of a hell raising Riot Grrl, but reality shows it to be the pseudonym of the brilliant Rebecca Lowry, AYGAMG's front woman! She is a Riot Grrl but in an entirely different way. Rebecca picked up the ukulele, and just started writing songs. Of female musicianship she says: "I think ladies are finally realizing that it's okay not to be Christina Aguilera, it's okay not to be Siouxie Sioux and the Banshees. It's okay to just be a girl with a ukulele who sings some folk songs." Here's a podcast of this interview that Rebecca did for X-Rated: Women in Music. You'll hear how she got into playing, and some of her beautiful songs!

AYGAMG's songs are acoustic dreams, that speak of first loves, dances, a crush, and a myriad of other fascinating stories! She has a soulful, folky sound that meshes beautifully. I think, in a way she tells all our stories. But of her songs, at least for the moment, I was moved by Before You Know! There's nothing like being with the one you know is made for you, and feeling as if the entire world is yours and no one else exists...at least for a second. Here's a lovely live video of AYGAMG's performing the song! I never knew a violin could sound so awesome with a ukulele until I saw this band at play!

Spotlight: Elle Fanning

This week's spotlight is on the adorable Miss Elle Fanning. I'll admit that I haven't watched many of her films, though I definitely want to watch the Sofia Coppola dreamscape, Somewhere. However, I have seen the most glorious photographs of her floating around Tumblr, and I had to find a reason to post them here!

Elle has such a mature grace about her. She has an ambiance that draws you to her, and makes you want to keep your eyes trained for what she will move on to next. Elle has such ethereal beauty that is pure, and enigmatic! I wish her all the blessings in the world. I'm sure we'll see her career blossom awesomely in the future!

I've recently discovered the YouTube duo ClothesEncounters (Jenn and Sarah). They hail from Los Angelos and I absolutely ADORE their videos! They mix thrifty styles with quirky trends...walking Nylon Magazines with a mix of themselves! Plus, their videos have the quality of official style diaries, very attracting! I can watch any of their videos and discover something that I would like add to my own personal style agenda. Not to mention, being outside of London and without a Nylon Magazine drives me to search for vibrant quirky goodness elsewhere! These ladies are ace!

I sat in my bed with my arms crossed in irritation. I wondered why my life turned out like this. Why am I still alone while everyone else is coupled up? Why don't I seem to get the jobs and positions I want while others seem to just breeze into it without a care? Why do I have to be set apart, while others can go with the flow? When? Who? What? Why? I looked up into the face of Jesus and wondered...What's the use?

Sometimes these moments rush in, unbridled tides, taking you by surprise. One moment you're content and the next, an overwhelming sense that you're in the back of an ever-winding line. You get mad and want to stomp away fully primed for a tantrum. That night, I pointed fingers at the Lord. But He looked down on me, and whispered in my ear, "Worship Me, daughter." This song ministered to me so vibrantly, I felt God within the first chords. I couldn't ignore His Spirit tugging at my heart, and I started to cry because in that moment I realized that His love outshines everything I feel naked without.

"Worship Me."

The Word of God says, in His presence is fullness and total joy. We train for years in university, or self teach ourselves many an awesome thing. But sometimes we forget that in the worship is our purpose. In the worship God fills us with joy, peace, and strength to go on living this life to its' brim. Jesus loves you so much! Sometimes we think of worship as something that takes away from self, but in fact, the Lord made it so that it not only glorifies Him, it benefits our spirits. How great a God He is that even in our worship of Him, He has us in mind. He didn't need to make us the center of His universe, but He chose us, loves us, plans whole sagas for us.

We don't have to be afraid of the future. We don't have to fear because people around us don't understand, or even if we ourselves don't understand just yet. Because He's with us, we have nothing to fear. Because He's with us, we don't have to fear being alone. He's waiting to fill every dip, gap, and void. If you let Him, He'll give you unexplicable joy that seems the stuff of dreams.

I encourage you to raise your arms to the stars like candle wicks and allow your Father to ignite your flame...for life, for love, and most importantly for His glory! Open your mouths in worship. For your keys to breakthrough, peace, joy...it all comes with the outpouring of love to your Father.

I pray this ministers to you tonight!

Forelsket Presents: Novel Days Blogging Event

About a month ago, I was privileged to participate in the Show Me Your Buns Blogging event hosted by Stephanie of The Loudmouth Lifestyle. It was my first event, and I had so much fun that I thought I would try my hand at it. These events are a wonderful way to get to know other bloggers, and to discover hidden gems within the community!

I've been in a huge literary mood lately, and I thought it would be fantastic to get the community talking about their favorite books! Hence, Novel Days!

Couples of Intrigue: Top 3 Supernatural Series

It's finally summer: the time to devour novels like chocolate cream puffs! All I need is a beautiful sunset, cup of tea, and a Supernatural romance to have a great evening! Young Adult Supernatural romance has some awesome talents popping up that I don't hear often enough. I love Edward and Bella, as you all know, but there are three couples that have slipped into my heart, and take my stamp of approval for Couples of Intrigue.

(Note: I have tried not to include any spoilers, but some may have slipped.)

"When Abbey's best friend, Kristen, vanishes at the bridge near Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, everyone else is all too quick to accept that Kristen is dead?and rumors fly that her death was no accident. Abbey goes through the motions of mourning her best friend, but privately, she refuses to believe that Kristen is really gone. Then she meets Caspian, the gorgeous and mysterious boy who shows up out of nowhere at Kristen's funeral, and keeps reappearing in Abbey's life. Caspian clearly has secrets of his own, but he's the only person who makes Abbey feel normal again...but also special.

Just when Abbey starts to feel that she might survive all this, she learns a secret that makes her question everything she thought she knew about her best friend. How could Kristen have kept silent about so much? And could this secret have led to her death? The Hollow (Barnes & Noble)

Abbey and Caspian- The Hollow Series by Jessica Verday

I believe that The Hollow series has to be the most underrated series in YA Supernatural Fiction of late. The story is such a beautifully haunting tale of a young woman in love with this enigma. This series is a bit of a wild card, in that it isn't as predictable as many series' of this nature tend to be. I had no idea what Caspian's circumstances were until I reached the very end of The Hollow. I found it to be very fresh and imaginative! As I read through the first novel, I felt like Caspian and Abbey seemed a little awkward, but as I continued to read it became more and more of a joy to witness their growth. Caspian is refreshing because he, though mysterious, comes across as a regular guy. He's honest, sincere, with a bit of a dark side, but nothing too overwhelming. The Hollow might seem a bit slow, but continue reading! It's worth discovering the surprise ending and moving forward to The Haunted, where Abbey and Caspian's relationship really blossoms! The second novel gives readers what we craved in the first, more information about Caspian, more romance, and more juicy bits of tension!

What continues to draw me again and again is how Verday intermingles her own envisioning of Sleepy Hollow and that of Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Every page seems alive with historical intrigue, and gothic themes. I consider a novel of special note when I'll read it to inhale small facets like Abbey's perfuming abilities. I love when a storyteller takes time to truly develop their characters and surroundings. The third and final novel of the series, The Hidden, hits bookshops on September 9th! I'm brimming with excitement. This is one I'll definitely be picking up in all of it's hardcover glory!

For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along.

With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment.

Hush, Hush (Barnes & Noble)

Patch and Nora- The Hush, Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick

Hush, Hush is slowly but surely rising to Twilight status. Finally the world of supernatural YA fiction turns it's sights to another enigmatic being: Angels. I was pulled into to the story immediately. Patch shines as one of the cheekiest, sexiest Angels written (and it even feels wrong to use the words 'sexiest' and 'Angel' in conjunction with one another). Nevertheless, it's so easy to fall for him! Fitzpatrick manages to create an entire angelic world in Amusement parks and pubs that are under the radar: seriously interesting stuff! Nora and Patch (hate to be cliche) are sizzling, and you want to follow them wherever their story leads. I give thumbs up to both Hush, Hush and Crescendo! I'm looking forward to Silence, the third and final novel in the series which comes out on October 4th!

There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price's attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He's the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce--and goes out of his way to make that very clear--she can't let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.

Dangerously exciting and darkly romantic, Fallen is a page turning thriller and the ultimate love story.

Luce and Daniel- The Fallen Series by Lauren Kate

Once again, a writer, intrigued with Angels, weaves and entire saga around the epic love story of a fallen Angel and a human. From the beginning, the novel has this haunting quality that pulls you in. There's something so beautiful about the story of an angel falling in love with this girl who comes back to life several generations and dies each time. Daniel is such a wild card: haunting, sarcastic, and totally uninterested...so he seems. I wanted to punch him in the face, and have a heart to heart with him at the same time. Kate knows how to make a reader swoon from the romance, and tense from the lengths each Angelic being goes through to capture Luce. It's such an epic adventure that everyone should experience. Passion, the third novel in the series, explores Luce and Daniel's love in every era from the beginning of time...what could be better than that? I can't wait to get my hands on a copy!

These three series' continue to mystify me, and if you love Supernatural fiction, I believe you'll be a great fan of these. Moreover, if you are a Twilight fan, you will devour these novels!

Of course I had to add this novel, what with the new Breaking Dawn trailer that's out.

I've written this article expecting stones to be thrown from every angle. Of course, as a bibliophile, the purchase of a Kindle could seem a kind of betrayal. After all, I've been voracious in the fight to keep the printed word on the shelves, tagged my websites, and engaged in many a testy dialogue on how E-Readers are blasphemous to the written word! And then I moved to the UK, and realized I purchased more books than I could possibly bring home with me. The solution? A spanking new Kindle 3G.

I couldn't stop the exhilaration flowing through me, as new gadgets are always fun! I purchased it right before making a London trip, thinking I could test it out, and see how it fared against wonderful binding.

Pros

3G Network/Memory: The thing that truly boggles my mind is knowing that I have close to 60 books tucked into my purse...but in a neat little slab. I think every bibliophile would agree that they've tried to fit entire libraries into their bags, and as awesome as it is to have them all, it's hefty and hard on the shoulders. Adding more to the obsession, Kindle 3G is connected to a network which allows perpetual access to the Amazon marketplace. If it's a novel you simply cannot wait for, especially if you were going to order it online, the Kindle satisfies the impatience!

Glare-Free Screen/Seamless Page Turning: Before I purchased a Kindle, I believed that the screen would have the glare of a computer screen. I normally have no problem reading on the computer, yet over time, it can tend to pull a whammy on your eyesight. The invention off E-Ink has changed me. Once you get over the discomforting thought that comes with not reading a physical book, you sink right into the Kindle. Its' page turning buttons are placed at a comforting reach on each side. Before you realize it, you've fully immersed yourself into the world of the novel, rather than being taken up with binding. I, for one, was surprised at how easy it was to transition.

Notes: One of the greatest features on Kindle 3G is Notes/Highlighting. I'm one of those people who not only underlines every line that sparks an emotion, but fills any white spaces with notes and jottings. Originally, I was put off by the Kindle, believing I wouldn't have the same luxury. But Amazon went and added a note taking feature, which allows you to Highlight whole passages. For those of us who love to share, it allows you to share your recent notes and highlights via Twitter and Facebook. Even more fascinating is the nifty feature which allows you to view the most popular highlighted passages of any book that other's have noted. Of course, if you're a reader who hates little notes left in by past graffiti artists, then it can be turned off!

Experimental Prototypes (Music, Internet, Text to Speech): It was awesome to discover that the Kindle allows you to surf the net. Is it the smoothest running browser? No, but just the fact that it's included makes me feel like I'm getting more for the dollar. Do you like to listen to music while reading? Kindle also has a feature which allows you to download MP3's and listen while you read, surf, or browse the Amazon Marketplace. Text to Speech allows you to rest your eyes, and listen to an automated voice read passages. That feature definitely came in handy during my 5,000 word essay on Wuthering Heights.

Battery Life: With the 3G network turned on you can read for as many as ten days. With it turned off, you can read for as long as a month. Sounds pretty good to me!

Skins/Covers: Kindle has some of the coolest covers and skins! If you love to beautify your gadgets, one can get lost on Etsy or Amazon searching for slip covers! It helps you to personify your portable library!

Cons

Eau de Novel: I believe most bibliophiles read books for the entire experience: its binding, the kind of paper it's printed on, its smell (be it new or old) and its overall allure. I, for one, love used novels because it seems entire lives are imprinted on to them, especially worn paperbacks! Unfortunately, with a computer device, one cannot appreciate these little additions. Amazon sees it as becoming immersed in the words themselves instead of aesthetics. What's you're take on that?

Battery Power: It's very weird to think your novel could lose power, and you'll have to race to an outlet/usb port to continue reading. Although, I've never allowed mine to lose power, but I'm currently testing it out.

Book Shops: If you make too much of a home with your Kindle, it could easily stop you from venturing out to bookshops, having a cuppa, and sharing in the beauty of a wonderful marketplace full of books. I couldn't really imagine not making trips to bookstores and taking in the ambience of literary excitement.

Kindle Book Prices: As a standard, most books are $9.99, but it can go as high as $15 depending upon the publishers set price. Can you see my face, eying them with disdain? I'm paying nine dollars and ninety-nine cents for a novel that has neither binding, nor glue, nor fanciful pages to bend or highlight. What am I paying for exactly? A file sent by Whispernet (Amazon's wireless network). Files should be no more than $5 dollars. And then the publishing world wonders why so many would rather pilfer the file from google than to overspend...on a file! In one particular occasion, I wanted to purchase Young Hearts Crying by Richard Yates, but was put off by the astounding price of $11.99. I still haven't purchased it to this day. To spend this much, it must come with all the fixings (perhaps like the Barnes & Noble Nook): Full color screens, video footage, and writer interviews on their processes...something that reminds me it's not just a mobile file.

Overall

I've discovered that I love my Kindle about as much as I love lugging books around. However, I wouldn't go as far as to say it replaces books. There is no replacement to a lovely book cover, binding, and enchantment of browning pages or musty fragrances. But this causes me to choose certain books wisely. There are some books that unfortunately aren't worth having in solid forms (This doesn't mean they aren't good!). Some are completely fine to download and keep in your awesome slab collection. While others, must be collected, savored, read again and again without the fear of a dwindling battery.

What say you Bibliophiles? Kindle or no?

Oh, a Ball! + Updates

Hello Dearies!

This past weekend I was privileged to attend my university's annual Summer Ball. It was like the Prom I never received in high school!

The day started with ridiculous hair prepping (my hair is thick like the Forks Rainforest). It took almost three hours and forty-five minutes to complete. But with the help of this tutorial, I achieved this Dita Von Teese inspired hair style (and ALL BY MYSELF!!!). It was so beautiful to me. There's and inherent beauty in bobby pins scattered across your boudoir, and the smell of hairspray amplified by straighteners and curling irons. Taking actual time to put yourself together...Priceless.

Afterwards, the girls and I made our way through ravaging winds coming in from Ireland to get to the Main Arts building where all of the festivities were held. We all were pleasantly surprised at how live everything was: Fairground rides (Ferris wheel, and some catastrophic unnamed other), Champagne, a hall flashing with awesome lights and bands waiting to stir it all up!

Before we all danced the night away, we made sure to stop and get our portrait taken! That was magical, especially seeing the outcome of this fabulous photograph!

It was a truly memorable night!!

Late Nights in The Arena!!!

Hello Darlings!

A few posts ago, I mentioned a website that I was in the process of launching to get my writing out into the world. Last Saturday, I launched Late Nights in the Arena on tumblr, and I couldn't be more thrilled. Although, I've never been published, upon seeing my work posted I reacted with that kind of excitement. It's crazy what happens when you see your work in 'serious' looking text somewhere. Very addictive! I'd like to give a personal shooting star to my editor Tessa (wink, wink), for all of the patience she has in weeding out my repetitive words, and comma faux-pas's. God knew I was going to be a writer, so He's placed an awesome 'grammatical blood hound' in my life.

My first short is called 'I Just Want to Walk with You.' Each short will be inspired by a song, so this one's inspired by 'Before We Know'-All Young Girls Are Machine Guns, a ukulele band based out of Omaha. (There's a post about her coming up soon!)

If you would like to see my writing set in chimera, feel free to visit my latest project and let me know what you think! I'm already at work on the next short. You know something's supposed to happen when you're in the shower, you start hearing the narrative flowing in your mind, and you've got to jump out of the shower to find a pen or hope Text Edit opens before you forget!

I'm totally looking forward to this film! Jack Kerouac is one of the dreamiest gifts in writing history. Although, I haven't finished reading On the Road, there's something epic about it. Even if I come away from the novel not as enthused about the story itself, the writing is too jazzed not to be admired or appreciated. The fact that it's autobiographical is something special. It's like he's mythologized his own life, documenting his moments not in stark mundanities, but rather in sensational reality. It's brilliant!

This film stars none other than one of my favorite people: Kristen Stewart. I remember when I first heard that she was cast as Marylou. It's totally perfect for her, and I look forward to seeing her portrayal. Due to the phenomenon that is Twilight, it's almost as if the world has forgotten that she was/is a grade A, indie actress, primed for films highly rated by academics and hipsters alike. It's time for the world to see her (and every other actor in Twilight) in a different light! And what a light to be cast in!

Now, I've got to challenge myself to have this novel finished by the end of the summer. I've both Penguin and Kindle editions...nothing should stop me!

Gosh, I'm so excited for this film. Hopefully, both novel and book will have me going:

Hello Dearies!

I would like to thank you all so much for keeping up with me even though I tend to disappear from time to time. Thus is the life of a postgraduate. During Easter break, I was a bit frantic with research, Wuthering Heights, and my own writing. SEVENTEEN THOUSAND WORDS worth of writing, Ladies and Gentlemen. But, I'm so glad that's over with!

I thought I'd pop in with a ukulele video today. It's a cover of Kate Nash's 'I Hate Seagulls.' It's also my first time fingerpicking on the ukulele. Oh my gosh, that is a bit like patting your head, and rubbing your stomach, and in the video you can tell I'm concentrating on that. Not happy about that, but I'm progressing, and I couldn't be more chuffed. I hope you guys enjoy it... even though, I messed up.

(also, much love to Megan of Charade Style, for commenting on my previous ukulele video post! She is one of my blogging inspirations and I'm not even sure how she knows about Forelsket, never the less, check out her blog. It's amazing!)

I've been working a great deal on my writing as of late. I have huge plans to hone in my grammar skills, and really crank out that crazy|beautiful prose that I see myself producing in the future. With this in mind, I've decided to stop hiding, finally, and create a blog dedicated to my writings. Feel free to check out Late Nights in the Arena, my new writing tumblr, which will hopefully be the title of a collection of shorts I'm writing. This group of shorts will each be inspired by one song. Feel free to message me with constructive criticism and love, if you love it!

I Miss You Already: Soap & Glory

I Miss You Already is a new series I'm writing where I catalogue all of the things I'll miss when I leave the UK.

In the past few month's I've been hearing a great deal about the brand Soap & Glory, and had even glanced it down the aisles of Boots from time to time. Why it never caught my attention until about a week ago, I have no idea. First off, Soap & Glory's packaging is simply phenomenal! It puts you in mind of a simpler time, with flashing titles and pin up girls. Almost puts me in mind of Benefit's presentation.

It's simplistic, yet with its' bright colors, bold text, and nostalgic black & white photographs, it does not lend for sore eyes in any boudoir! On that alone, I wanted to purchase everything.

Unfortunately the only product I've tried of theirs is Hand Food (£3.23), as I have been combing the shelves for a good hand cream. Ladies (and Gents), this hand cream can give any luxury brand a run for their money. The fragrance is simply lovely, and it does its' job to make your hands sumptuously soft! My friend and I were like women locked in a Sephora with a £1000 gift card for a second. We smelled the various Body Butters and body scrubs, and really the fragrance is wonderful! The Breakfast Scrub (£6.30) pulled me from the title alone, but it seriously smells like oatmeal. Of course this wouldn't appeal to everyone, but it seems like a calming scent for a spring morning! I seem to be more partial to the Flake Away Scrub (£4.43), awesome fragrance, and has been noted for being the best for shaved legs...leaving them extremely soft!

Of course since I haven't tried them all, I can't say, with certainty, that this product is as awesome as it seems. But I can say that I'm willing to give them a try! Not to mention, if you go to their website, or the Boots website, most of the Body Butters/Cremes or Bath/Shower Gels receive rave reviews for at least 3 pages or more. It seems Soap & Glory has managed to create a drug store line which seems more like a luxury brand, or at least a product that feels like a luxurious treat! They also carry Shampoos, Facial Cleansers, and Makeup! Prices normally start around £2 if you wish to buy the travel sized products.

You guys might have seen this brand in Target. They may still be sold there, although I've checked and it stated that they had pulled out of the States. But not to worry, it seems they are preparing to come back this September! I couldn't be more thrilled about that! Visit their website to start prepping for September!

25 Before 26: Au Natural

For me, being 25 has become a great deal about stripping. Of course not in the lurid sense! But I've been stripping the things that clutter my life, and learning confidence by accepting certain facets of myself that just are what they are.

One thing: My hair! The UK has matured me so much, and caused me to overcome some serious hurtles in my life. The last two weeks have been dedicated to my hair. Unfortunately, being in Wales puts me at a distance from hair salons that can give me a quick touch-up. Not to mention, it's pretty pricey to even think about getting a relaxer. My hair is a beast. It is the impenetrable forest that little pygmies live in. In other words, pretty hard to deal with. Yet in the last two weeks, I've been fed up with how I've given myself and excuse to hide beneath a beanie from H&M in a scrunchie. The sun's coming out, there's more light hours, and it's getting warmer, and therefore, time for a change. I scoured Youtube for some inspiration, before chancing upon a guru called Gracie (The Ugly Face Of Beauty-her new channel, filled with beauty, encouragement and hauls!), in which she gives a bit of a tutorial on how to achieve her natural curls. When I tried it, I didn't get her curls right off the bat, which irritated me. But finally, with some tweaking and fiddling around with my hair, I've come up with a look thats pretty easy, and allows me to wear my hair in beautiful waves. (Not to mention, my hair is the softest it's been since I got here...check out Gracie's hair routine video)

Being 25 has been one of those landmark years in my life, where I've finally decided that it's fine just being who I am. Where I don't have to go outside in a perpetually painted mask, or embrace insecurities as I once did in high school. I don't have to hide behind beanies just because my hair hasn't been chemically straightened, or pretend to wear a specific style to fit in with the masses. Have I clenched this entirely? Of course not...it's a constant act of living it out each day. But this is what becoming a mature woman is: Finally embracing the bits that everyone else wants to castrate, and making them beautiful (God already made them beautiful, it's just up to you to accept it). It's never comparing yourself to anyone else, because in the end there is no comparison. It's moving from the teenager in you that want's all the guys to think she's hot, to the woman in you who's radiant because she's fully in her own skin regardless of insecurities, and understands that she can show the world no other self.

Cheers to moving forward, and embracing ourselves as mature, and radiant women!

Soft Pages Saturated in Inkblots

I'm sure Forelsket will be littered with posts dedicated to the beauty that is the Moleskine Notebook. There's just something about its mythology, soft pages, and personability that elevates it over the rest. Over the years, I have had so many of these books, some unfinished, most I'm bent on finishing to get in the habit of completing things I start. Here are my uses for the three types of Moleskine I'm using at the moment:

Life Book (Lined Soft Cover Notebook)

My Life Book is a constant source of inspiration to me. I fill it with affirmations, wishes, dreams, goals, slips of memories like my airline ticket to Paris, Laduree condiments, Metro tickets, etc. Although I promised myself I wouldn't vent in it, I need an outlet and so it happens. That makes it even better once I conquer whatever it is that I'm venting, to look back and see how far I've come! It is simply a dream to write in. Once you find the right pen (which is totally your preference though the Uniball pens work awesomely) it is liken to the experience of reading novels with browning pages in the Strand!

Nikki Fierce Manual (London Guide Book)

I purchased this London Guide with intent to leg it and go mental in Covent Garden, Trafalgar square or whatever other equally thrilling place that captured my fancy. I love the philosophy of the book which is: 'For every traveller who has any taste of his own, the only useful guidebook will be the one which he himself has written' spoken by Aldous Huxley. It's awesome to think of only recording the aspects of a place that thrilled you. But, I picked it up from my shelf one day, needing a place to record chords that I've learned for the ukulele, thus, killing two birds with one stone. Here, I copy the chords of songs I love playing, and finger placement charts for easy memorization.

Book Journal (Moleskine Passions)

I've never had one book dedicated to reviewing and cataloging the novels I read, and I thought, why not start afresh with one? I started the year off with voracious novel reading and scribbling all sorts of random thoughts about them in my journal. It's been pretty fun! I've decided to create a section here at Forelsket based on the entries scribbled in this book. Thought it would be a fun take on book reviewing, so I can't wait to get started?

This segment includes covers of The Way I Am by Ingrid Michaelson and Hope for the Hopeless by A Fine Frenzy! The first is dedicated to everyone in my life in relationships, and my future husband at some point! The latter is dedicated to Japan and all others who need a hopeful reminder that God is great and will never leave them!

In the short while that I've played the ukulele it has become quite the highlight of my time here in Wales! It began as a mere aspiration spawning from my desire to rock out on guitar. However, guitars tend to be quite expensive, so I began to look for an alternative that would get me playing some music. A whimsy gal like myself tends to fall for ukuleles upon sight as they are the tea cup of stringed instruments.

During the Christmas break, I checked out some players on youtube, and tried to acquaint myself with terms and chords. I really enjoyed it's tinkling notes, each one brimming of sunlight and the joy of spring walks. When I came back, I popped into the music shop up the street from my flat and pointed at a violet Ariana (an affordable brand). I remember the sardonic look on the shop owner's face as he wrapped it up, and asked my why, of all instruments, had I chosen the ukulele. I told him I chose it because it was one quirky little instrument that always gets overlooked because of the guitar; I wanted to crack the mold and be the odd egg. When I told him I had no prior music training, he nodded, handed me my brand new instrument, and told me that he loved my reasons for buying it, and encouraged me to take on the world. With such affirmations, why not take the world by storm?

The next week, I practiced, and endured dubious looks from the few who believed it would only collect dust on a shelf somewhere. By the next week, I'd memorized chords to a few songs, and the week after, I recorded my first video covering Hometown Glory by Adele. I learned how to play in a few short weeks, and it was exhilarating and lovely to find that I was 'creating' music. Also a great way to pass the time in the smallest town on earth!

Picking up any instrument feels like the beginning of some great artistic journey. It will always be a little bit of a challenge, but a worthy one. As I learned, I felt like I had some sort of connection with some of my favorite artists like Kate Nash, or Joan Jett when she decided she would be that girl who played rock and roll. Of course, I'm not playing for any sort of music career, just for the sheer beauty of playing.

There's something about being in the UK that drives you to get creative. One of my reasons for moving out here was the novel I'm writing. It's saturated in music, and when I started it, I had no idea that the London I was painting was actually the truth. Every other person out here is in a band, or plays an instrument, or is a singer/songwriter. One can't help but be affected by such an environment.

There is an individual flare that is encouraged here, and that is something I feel while playing the ukulele. It is such and odd little instrument that you must be creative, and dare yourself not to be afraid of looking silly. They call it the instrument of the underdog, and that adds to it's allure. Why strum the same tunes as everyone else, on the same instrument as everyone else? Why not start a band, and become one of the only ones with a uke player?

To learn, I went to the website Ukulele Hunt. It is one of the only things you need to get started! There are guides from Beginner to Expert stages, and chords to get started on. Also, there's information on the various types, brands, and models of ukuleles out there. Upon first hearing, I had no idea how to tune my uke, thankfully this wonderful online tuner exists! Next, I went to Ukulele Tabs, to find all of the songs I could ever want to cover. As you become fluent with the chords, you can go to any guitar chord website, and play them as well!

Misty Miller is one of my serendipitous finds in Uke Land. She's only sixteen years old, but her folky pop music contains such maturity and insight. Her voice is poetic along with the ukulele's simplistic sound. It's awesome to see such a sublime uke player show that uke's are more than just toy guitars. Although, I haven't heard the whole of her self-titled brand new album, I have heard a few stellar songs that give me hope for the rest. My fav's at the moment are Little Thing Called Love and Vampire. It's also pretty interesting to see how she composes songs that are a bit heavier, like Bones, on the ukulele. This is probably one of many ponderings on the whimsy ukulele! I've decided to continue my uke cover videos in a series entitled Uke Affairs (Youtube|Vimeo), and I can't wait to start!

Get out there, guys and gals. Start a band, start a revolution, or something. Be a force of positive radiation, and spread love like brush fires. As with the tragedies happening all over the world, more recently Japan, we can see how fragile life really is. But instead of being down, embrace your life, and literally live as if you didn't have the luxury of tomorrow. Be thankful and awed by God for keeping you and yours safe, and embrace the blessings and opportunities that He's blessed you with!

Kate Nash's Rock and Roll For Girl After School Music Club

This interview of Kate Nash made me smile today. She talks of her passion to tour around the country giving workshops for young women on their place in the music industry! It's so wonderful to hear an artist talk of her passion for music, and furthermore her passion to see women portrayed as proper artists without having to be manufactured or basically sell their sexuality. Makes me wish I was a young girl now, because if Kate Nash could have come to my high school and given a workshop, I would've been beyond thrilled!

"Crystalize Your Conscience"

Sometimes my mind races so quickly regarding this that it's no wonder I've rendered myself unable to write creatively. Writing seems an epic feat, that only few are chosen to operate in. We have turned the mere concept of an art form into something as tenebrous as a conversation with an extra-terrestrial. 'It's simply too special for me...What would I come up with that's of any worth?' We've all probably overrun our minds with these kinds of questions as we wait for the mythical muse to show up, possessing our fingers, and causing words to appear like magic.

Well, sometimes the muse shows up, and other times, it seems, we must drive it out! Little inklings begin to seep out of our imaginations as we give up the reasons why we can't speak in our own voices, sit down and write. It might be gibberish at first, but you'll see. It'll become something really beautiful, and truthfully the gibberish itself is the beauty. It means at the risk of writing nonsense, you travailed through it anyway.

J'adore Paris

Walking through an airport terminal in Charles De Gaulle is a bit like stepping into an alternate universe. It seems Paris is one of the most highly fantasized places on earth...little girls dreaming of fashion and frolicking, with hopes of one day gleaning something from their (the French) seeming unparalleled sophistication. Me...I just went for the macarons, and well...a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower!

The night my bestie, Charline and I decided to go to Paris was a fit of Carpe Diem; A spur of the moment decision to go that very next weekend. Then you hear the words, 'Yeah, I'll be in Paris next weekend,' float out of your mouth, and it's surreal, and a bit incomprehensible.

That first night we learned a great deal of Paris, that is, the outskirts: The Paris no one dreams about because they never see it. Upon stepping onto the Metro platform, you abandon the notion of being a tourist, and embody the French, otherwise, you will get lost (which we did). Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending upon which glass you favor), we went out there as dreamers, with only the Lord's favor, and 100 euros of which to keep us for two days.

In those two days, we managed to float through opaque Parisian afternoons taking in the magnificence of the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, wander through street artists in Montmartre (which I later found out was the whimsical stomping ground of Amelie Poulain), and breathe in all the glitz of the Champs Elysees. In the evening, we got to experience why Paris is called the 'City of Lights.' After all the gray, everything seemed to take on a glow, like being in a field of fireflies, except a vast city of lovers, artists, and chimera. Every hour, the Eiffel Tower sparkles in the night, and upon sight, you suddenly feel wistful, as if you should take at least one chance that night.

Out of everything we encountered, we adored Montmartre the most. It's exactly what you think of when you think about Paris: little shops and cafe's clustered about it's center, artists admiring the Cathedral and jumping at the chance to turn you into art; Also, archaic looking restaurants that make you think this is how it was when the Moulin Rouge was in full effect and artists came far and wide just to sip green fairies, and write.

Laduree is everything is seems to be: beautiful and delicious. Every single dessert looks picture perfect, exactly as they did in the film Marie Antoinette. We had the pleasure of going to the Champs Elysees location, and it was a lovely choice. The queue of macaron enthusiasts lengthened until it was almost outside of the front door! Unfortunately, I did not get to purchase an official box, as they were a bit pricey, but I did have as many macarons as I could afford. My favorite was the vanilla flavored macaron: so creamy, and spotted with pure vanilla bean! Later on, we decided we couldn't leave without having a coffee in their decadent restaurant. We were met with suited staff, ready to take our orders, and who presented us with a little cup of coffee with heated milk (with a Laduree handle holder that is now pasted in my Life Book) and a Cinnamon Iced Frappe (which really means Iced coffee, not the blended iced Frappucinos we're used to). Our coffees, combined with soft light, 18th Century furnishings and gold etched ceilings, made for the perfect evening!

By the end of the trip, we had walked 20 hours total, gotten lost at least 6 times, jumped on and off of the Metro, eyed the handsomeness that is the French Man, bought Wine and two large bottles of water for only (around) 4 Euro, dined on mussels and roast chicken, a small cup of cookie gelato, been harassed by souvenir sellers under the Eiffel Tower (6 Keychains for 1 Euro), found two cool pink 'J'adore Paris' tanks, gorged ourselves on sweet croissants, felt our way through the dark hallways of our hotel before discovering a light switch, and were completely exhausted. Aches were discovered in placed we had no idea could hurt, but was it worth it? Absolutely!

Everyone should go even if it's only once in their lifetimes.

Hometown Glory: Ukulele Cover

After learning to play the ukulele for the last two weeks, I was so proud of my progress I had to provide and update here at Forelsket! Nikki (the uke) and I have been getting to know each other, and have become great friends and allies!

Rouge the Shade of Diva

Earlier this year, I mentioned wanting to find the perfect shade of red to set off my fashion passion of the year. With red being such a confident color, I wanted it to be a kind of testament to my decision to lead a life of zeal and confidence! Yesterday, I ambushed my local Superdrug on a mission to find this color before I go on my 'secret' holiday! Armed with bestie, Charlene, we picked this lovely shade by Rimmel London called 'Diva Red.' I ran home to try it, and loved it instantly! I haven't had a tube of lipstick for a long time, and so I discovered the beauty of it's smell, and its aesthetic loveliness! I will have a photo of me taken while on the secret holiday to show you all the fierceness!

You often find treasures scattered around you when you're not looking, and Oh Comely is one of those magazines you want to savor. I discovered it while in WHSmith, an English chain of bookstores, and I couldn't leave without taking it with me. Simplicity is more when it comes to it's layout, and grabs you like a handmade zine by one of your friends.

Within, you'll find stories of geniuses that live next door, and cross paths with you during your daily life. You'll find music suggestions, articles on artists of all trades like Yann Tierson, the 'composer,' and Julia Pott, an animator/illustrator. This magazine prides itself on bringing out the treasures and curiosities of everyday life, like getting to know you're neighbors, and picking the brains of random passersby for the very last thing that surprised them. There are wonderfully random nuggets that will surprise you, and cause you to learn something you might not have otherwise known. The photography throughout is so artful and dreamy! They even provide you with a few recipes of which you can try out to discover new tastes.

Oh Comely is a wonderful magazine that reads like a letter from your best friend, and encourages you to engage in the world around you, rather than looking to commercial satisfaction. A celebration of quirks and creativity! Purchase?

On a side note: Let's support independent publishers, because in the end, they go above and beyond to provide you with heartfelt content, unique sights, and the work of artists who are most often overlooked by mainstream entities. Support your fellow artists!

I've recently discovered this awesome website, via Gabbie, called Looklet which is the Polyvore for look creation. Someone Like You- Adele

This is a brand new track off of Adele's new album 21 called Someone Like You! I'm in love with how she's doing little vignette documentaries about certain aspects of the record, it's totally lovely! Her home is such an artistic dream to me...very simplistic with little vintage items placed in interesting sections. Loads of light shining through! I would love for my house to look in many ways like an Anthropologie store, little baubles for door knobs and cabinet knobs, beautiful gobbets, tea cups with little watercolor paintings, all that awesome stuff!

I had a wonderful week back in the UK, and the sun even peeked out of the fog and cumulus bursts to meet with me for a spell! This evening I had a date with high street, and combed the shops looking for something lovely to wear to a possibly romantic affair. I ended up in front of a Sale rack in H & M and at the fragrance counter in SuperDrug, a local chemist chain in the UK.

There's nothing better than a bit of retail therapy, especially when you've been wanting one for a while! I had no idea that H & M sold beauty products so I had to jump on this discovery! The Peach Blossom body butter smells lovely! I've also taken to more neutral colored nail varnishes, but of course I had to throw in a splash of aqua! Burberry Touch is the new love of my life.

Tomorrow, I'm going to start my musical journey when I pick up my Ukulele! There will be more posts on 'him' soon enough.

I also wanted to let you know of some new additions coming to Forelsket that I'm excited about! It seems I've been having quite fashion/beauty related inspiration lately, which is awesome; But I definitely don't want to deviate from one of the points of this blog, which is to encourage you to fall in love with your life. With this is mind, I've decided to conduct a series of interviews called 'Forelsket Sparks,' which would include experiences from bloggers, creatives, musicians, etc, who have inspired me, and whom I hope will inspire you to get out there and get chasing your dreams. Watch out for my very first interview within the next month.

Jonathan Safran Foer has been one of my favorite writers of all time for a while. His novel, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is one of the most beautiful novels I've ever read, and although I haven't finished it yet, I'm prolonging it. It's a novel that you really want to savor, and soak in its genius! I've embarked on reading most, if not all, of his works, because not only is he a wonderful writer, he knows how to blend all sorts of artistic medium into literature, making it more than just a novel. It's what I aspire to in my own writing.

Tree of Codes is Foer's next astounding work of art. A novel of die cuts, formed from within his favorite book, The Street of Crocodiles by Bruno Schulz. It's the journey of one character's last day of life; Words cut out of another work to form a story within a story...how magnificent is this concept? I'm brimming over this, because its something to be studied, and marveled at. It blends the art of storytelling with the entirely different art-form of die-cutting. Even more awesome, is that it is the first of it's kind! Bravo, Jonathan!

What is it about vintage eras that keep us intrigued with their daily beauty rituals, style of dress, and customs? I believe it's the undeniable femininity exuded from each woman. My favorite decades are the 20s, 30s, and 40s, as they were great triumphs in terms of style! In these decades women oozed femininity; vulnerable, yet incredibly confident and strong. They were extremely sexy, but with modest standards. They were so glamourous, and even during more daily rituals, they held a beauty that is quite unparalleled to present customs. I'm not sure if any of these women had the choice of a comfy pair of sneakers over a pair of moderate heels, or baggy jeans over a stylish skirt. Sometimes I almost wish I didn't have so many comfy options at my disposal (sometimes!), as I would then be forced to get creative and pull my style together! There is something so wondrous, even romantic, about going to great lengths to really dress. Can you imagine if we all had to dress like this, keep our hair in rollers, and endure press an curls...every day?

It almost seems a bit daunting to try out this lifestyle, yet more of us are beginning to take in the beauty and jump right in to try these styles out. It goes without saying that Dita Von Teese is one of the vintage reigning queens. She's so poised, articulate and stunning without fail! Two of my favorite bloggers, Casey of Elegant Musings, and Fleur of Diary of a Vintage Girl, have managed to drench their lives in vintage living. I remember when I first started reading Elegant Musings three years ago, I had no idea women had the resources to completely live as if they came from a different era. I saw Casey, and I just knew she stepped out of a black and white film. Fleur is such a classic beauty! Her diary is filled with tales from another era, lived in technicolor. Casey and Fleur have caused me to want try it out myself.

I'll start off with hair and makeup, and then slowly start adding different thrift/consignment items into my wardrobe. Youtube is a great tool for learning different makeup tips and styles, as ladies like Casey and Fleur have taken the time to create tutorials for us! Here are two videos of theirs that I adore:

This vintage change ties to my goal to find the perfect red shade this year and be brave enough to pull it off. After looking up different shades, Duwop's Private Red seems to be a perfect choice. Once donned, it promises to adapt into the exact shade of red that compliments your complexion. If this lipstick works as I expect it will, what with so many positive reviews, I'll never have to troll Sephora looking for another shade of red again! Private Red retails for $22. Life Stories: No. 1- Dressed for no other reason save Living.

Have you ever rose for the day, pulled the curtains back really wide to take in the sun. Ate a breakfast that is simplistic and lovely as crisp toast slathered in blueberry preserves and a fluffy egg on a porcelain plate. Went into your bathroom, had a moment of meditation to God in thanks that you get to live these next moments. A moment of 'you' time to treasure the whole of your skin. Sprayed and saturated your body in your favorite fragrance and moisturizers, before dabbing your face in make up.

Walked to your wardrobe, and fished out one of the most beautiful dresses. Paired it with wonderful shoes, whether heels or flats. And opened your door to a day on the town, filled with spontaneous occurrences, with no 'real' reason to get dressed up other than you felt like it?

This year, I'm going to invite some of my besties to get dressed up with me, and go to London. We'll sit to tea. We'll shop. Take crazy/beautiful photographs. Simply flâneur, which Debra Ollivier defines as 'one who does not go places with a particular objective or precise schedule but allows the ambling course or general intentions to guide her into unplanned encounters and special unexpected pleasures.'

Style Must Have: Luella's Guide to English Style

Luella Bartley is one of the coolest designers I've ever beheld! I remember when she teamed up with Target to create cool, eclectic fashion and accessories for an affordable price. Although, I never got a chance to purchase any of her items, I just knew it would be a huge hit. Being the London aficionado that I am, I'm sold just on the fact that she's London Fab.

Now she's written a book dedicated to London Style, and all its crazy, cool, feminine, tom boy, whimsical, cool vibes. Just observing street style in London, it's such a great mix, everyone individual, and influenced by the melting pot around them. I love how Londoners can mix feminine classics like synched baby doll dresses, with tom boyish oxfords, pearls, a fierce hairstyle and it all works! I can't wait to go to London this year, and I need this book to help me get my muse on, and glean a little bit from the spirit of London Street Style! I hear that it's hardcover, and rustically weathered, adding to its charm. According to reviews, it also reads more like a love letter to English style, than just a look book. It retails 'used' on Amazon US for $29.96 and Amazon UK £9.40.

Heart Cadie Plus Peter Pan Collared shirts

I love Cassie from the original cast of Skins, and although Cadie will never replace her, there is something awesomely special about her! Out of all the characters presented in Skins US, I'm most excited to see how Britne Oldford will portray Cadie. She's adorable, and looks like she will have a treasure trove of fashion eccentricites to watch for!

I adore this top, but unfortunately this exact garment is hard to find. Nevertheless, I'm on my grind to find tops like it.

I used to have an aversion to this style of collar, but after years of watching Carrie of Wish Wish Wish pull it off, it has opened my eyes. I am more partial to a streamlined Peter Pan collar, as they tend to look a bit cartoonish if they are too large. Nevertheless, there's a whimsy about it that I would love to add to my wardrobe: One coat, and at least 2 blouses!

Two Nuggets of Dreamer Inspiration

Elizabeth Gilbert, author of insanely popular memoir Eat, Pray, Love, has quite profound thoughts on the concept of genius in terms of an artistic lifestyle. She also talks about nurturing creativity so that it is not a negative force that overwhelms the artist, but that is brought forth in a life-giving, more communal manner. All artistic people seeking to live their lives, and work their craft minus all of the historically negative concepts of the lifestyle (such as mental instability and alcoholism) should watch this!

All talent, all art, and everything beautiful has been given to us by God for His Glory! It's about time we all embrace this freedom, and allow ourselves to write, or dance, or paint, journalize...whatever it is that you do. It might not live up to a genius that's already been presented, but it will expose a new genius, a new form of work worth paying attention to! I think we all fear that what we touch will crumble underneath us, but if we just show up, and do what we believe God has placed us on this earth to do, God will show up and fill in the rest.

Elviin is one of my new English finds on the music scene. His music is so beautiful, each and every song! He has an inspiring positivity about his music, and it just reminds me of a dreamer who's remembering to carry it out! His story is not very different, as he started in music after deciding that the regular 9 to 5 job was not for him. He purchased a piano and learned it within 10 months! Now he's offering his album 'Made Of' for free on his youtube profile. I can only hope I catch on to the ukulele that quickly! (CAN'T WAIT!)

"The Memory of Her Perfume Lingers"

Bonne Nuit, my darlings!

Lately, I have been on a major perfume kick. It seems I've put so much into developing my personal style, that I've forgotten that fragrance is an important aspect of style. There is something so lovely about the way a perfume is developed, with its base, bottom, and top notes. When the 'right' combination of scents are blended, it's mystifying how it adapts to every woman's personal chemistry! It's like a chapter in the novel of your life, or style journey. Each fragrance that draws you in brings to mind past events, first kisses, the day your mom begin to cultivate style in your life.

Here are some fragrances that I've been intrigued with:

Womanity by Thierry Mugler: This has got to be one of the most mysterious scents to come out in the past year. It's a bit hard to explain to someone who has yet to smell it, but it's delightful to me! I tend to enjoy woody, spicy scents. It combines a woody scent, with figs and caviar, quite the unconventional blend. It's a heavy scent, so one need not have a heavy hand with this one! However for those who do not enjoy such a heavy scent, the lotion embodies the scent in a lighter way! One of the key elements of this fragrance is the bottle. It's a masterpiece, a bit peculiar, but unlike anything I've ever seen. It would make me feel as if I'm pouring a type of fierce swagger on myself as a strong female. The other best part is that its a refillable bottle, kind to our environment, while allowing you to treasure the bottle! ($28-$78)

Princess by Vera Wang: This is such a classic now that I doubt I have to explain why its such a beauty. It's such a soft scent combining elements like dark chocolate and pink frosting accord, with water lilies and Tahitian flowers which really makes it well rounded. It's feminine, and makes me feel gorgeous. It's a scent that can be worn all year round, and to all events. ($18-$75)

Lolita Lempicka: One of the most obvious beauties of this fragrance is its bottle! It reminds me of something you might find in a wood, along an enchanted path; it's lovely! One of my former coworkers used to swim in this, and I could never get the scent out of my mind. It blends ivy leaves and violet, and then mellows with vetiver and vanilla; Very intriguing and whimsical! ($47-89)

Burberry Brit Sheer: I am a Londoner at heart, and Burberry is one of my favorite lines! I was not a huge fan of the original Burberry Brit, because it was a bit too strong for my tastes. This 'Sheer' version is perfect. It's a perfect 'day' scent, for work, or a stroll. It has a kind of frolicsome feel to it, almost like it defines the phrase Carpe Diem. A very fresh and youthful scent. Notes include Pineapple leaves, Pink Peony, and White Musk. One of my absolute favorites. ($25-$80)

Burberry's The Beat: This is my second favorite scent of all time. But instead of having a light and romantic feel to it, like 'Brit Sheer', it has a determined, confident aura. It makes me feel like an artistic 'hipster' who's on the move, living life! Very energetic! It's notes include, Begamont, Pink Peppercorn, and Ceylon tea! ($48-$78)

Tocca's Bianca: Unfortunately for these next Tocca fragrances, I haven't had the pleasure of smelling either of them, however, the stories behind them, and fragrant ingredients intrigue me. Tocca is a brand that seems to infuse a natural european elegance into the presentation of their fragrances. Simplistic and lovely. This scent is inspired by 'tea time in Italy,' and includes notes of rose petal, green tea, and musk. How romantic is it to inspire a fragrance after tea time anywhere in Europe? Lovely! ($68)

Tocca's Colette: This fragrance is inspired by writer/libertine Colette. From it's description: 'Colette embodies the irresistible scent of a woman that lingers on the pillow long after she leaves.' Notes include Bergamot, Jasmine, and Amber. The thought of this perfume being inspired by a renowned writer automatically grabs me, but also the fact that it seems to be a very sensual and intriguing scent. A woman can always use one romantic fragrance, and one scent full of mystery! ($36-68)

Hair Fragrances:

I love the thought of a fragrance created to infuse your hair. I had no idea that there were fragrances specifically designed for this, and I had to put three on the list which intrigued me the most!

Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb: This scent is a floral explosion of Jasmime, Ballerina Freesia, and Patchouli. From the description, it seems to be a very summery and positive fragrance. My only qualm would be that it might be a bit too strong. I hope that it truly is a mist, as not to become overwhelming. ($40)

Thierry Mugler Angel: This fragrance seems very light, yet evocative. From it's description, '...evokes the emotion of tender childhood memories together with a sense of dreamlike infinity.' Notes include, Bergamont, Chocolate and Dewberry. Sephora has categorized it as pure, soft and innocent, and I have to admit I love the thought of a scent like this for my hair. I can't imagine that one would want their hair infused with a fragrance that is just as heavy as the one used daily. Out of all three choices, this one seems like a certain win! ($36)

Narciso Rodriguez For Her: This scent is very warm and woody with notes including Amber, Vanilla and Honey flower. Seems like a basic spicy smell. Definitely worth the try if you love these kinds of fragrances! ($33)

Borrow A Page From a French Girls' Book: Body Love

As I read over this passage, I couldn't help but pass it on! It's so important to become comfortable in your own skin, to love your body, and embrace it in its whole. In Psalm 139:13-16, David spoke to God in awe and in gratefulness of how He created him fearfully and wonderfully. God, Himself, created each of us in His image. How astounding is this news once fully taken in? That means the whole of you is beautiful and lovely, and not in a vain way, but truthfully. He's placed too much in you, for you to allow media, magazines, and others to bring you to an insecure place.

The excerpt was so inspiring to me, because once you reach this freedom where you love who you are, and the framework that God Himself sculpted, you cannot be touched by jarring negativity. I especially adored: 'Love your body, and your children will grow up loving theirs.' It just reminds us that our choices, not only affect us, but also those who will look up to us. I would love to watch my daughter carry on a healthy self-esteem and love for her body as a result of my cultivating it in her life!

I thought the photograph was a beautiful representation of loving yourself. I pray that the nudity is not offensive to you. I just felt moved to find a tastefully nude photograph to enhance the point of embracing your full self.

Being and avid 'The City' fan, I must admit that Olivia Palermo is not portrayed as the most wonderful person. But if I divorce myself from that show, I can give her credit for being such a wonderful dresser! She seems to put herself together effortlessly, and embodies the French ideals I discussed in the previous post. Always fresh faced, and girly, Olivia understands that less is more. Always donned in quality garments, with eclectic flair!

Parisian Haze

This evening I pulled Entre Nous: A Woman's Guide to Finding Her Inner French Girl by Debra Ollivier, out from under piles of literary abandon in my closet. I quickly breezed through the preface and Chapter 1 before spritzing the last of my Miss Cherie L'eau upon its pages. It really adds to the ambience of the book, aromatherapy if you will! That's when France all but grabbed me by the collar, and jumped in!

I don't really understand what it is about Paris that tends to pull a romantic, whimsy mind away for a ride. To dream, to live, and even fathom having the lithe sophistication and lifestyle of a french woman. What is it that the French infuse into their lives that doesn't seem to be embraced by any other culture? I think, its Life. Coming from New York City, one would think that I have enough of my own breezy sophistication going for me, but we are taught to live fast. Period. And in living fast, we find ourselves in vast opportunities to take advantage of, but we never actually experience anything; Before we can blink, we're on to the next. We're eying the trends, but neglecting to cultivate our own beauty or sense of self. We're gaining weight in the midst of our dates, meetings, and shopping forays because we haven't stopped to eye what we're eating. This is a bit of a generalization that I'm sure doesn't fit every New Yorker, but it does seem common to us.

Nevertheless, I was inspired even reading what little I have read of this book to slow down, take a look at the beauty around me, and cultivate my own fragrance of beauty, joy, and self!

Let Them Eat Cake: Of course, we all know by now that Marie Antoinette never actually said those words, but there's no reason not to take them to heart. Buy your favorite dessert, and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! Don't feel guilty, just indulge! To take it even further, Fly to Paris (or London), and have a little date in Laduree, where you can eat macaroons to your hearts content! Until then, I'll stick to Magnolia Bakery, their cupcakes are clouds of ambrosia!

Have a Pink and Blue Party watching Marie Antoinette: Watch the film, for its beauty, the parties, the dresses, and the carefree frolicking! Or, if you would like to somehow treasure and expand the moment, read Antonia Fraser's biography and learn about this awesome icon.

Parisian Literary Abandon:
- A Parisian Affair and Other Stories by Guy de Maupassant: There's something so lovely about reading most of his pieces. I started with Bel-Ami, and along with awesome plots, he understands the meaning of saturating an audience into Paris.
- French Ways and Their Meanings by Edith Wharton: I haven't read this yet, but Debra Ollivier recommended it. What can go wrong with an entire book of meanderings on the city of lights?
- The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery: This is one of my favorite tales. It's profound, lovely, wise, and even a little sad. But wonderful all the same!
- A Writer's Paris by Eric Maisel- For writer's out there seeking to indulge in daydreams of an artist's lifestyle.
- The Goddess Guide: What Makes you Happy by Gisele Scanlon: During my time in Wales, I spotted this book in a store called River Island (which is an awesome store!). I love this kind of book, filled with little treasures of cities and simplicities to help you discover and bring to the forefront what makes you happy!
- An Education by Lynn Barber + the film: I adored this film! And as reeling as the end was, I enjoyed all of the protagonists dreams of Paris! Come on, ladies, don't we all have those dreams? I look forward to reading the autobiography!

Decor: When I think of Paris, I think of simplicity, with little touches of opulence. I think of ornate chandeliers, patterned fabric, vintage candelabras, candle-light, country houses with cool breezes catching tulle curtains, classic with personality. This year, I would like to start filling my space with beauty, fresh cut flowers, paintings, and of course, old books!

Fragrance: There is always something so beautiful to me about fragrance. It's as multi faceted as a well written novel, or cinematographic masterpiece. It is so personal that its scent varies with each woman. I would love to treat myself to small vials of Chanel or Miss Dior L'eau, however, I would also love to find a place that allows you to create your own fragrance. At the moment, I am in love with Amber; It's rich, mature, and sexy.

Beauty and Fashion: French style is simplistic, beautiful and timeless. It has great personality, along with a seeming effortless poise and sophistication. It screams quality, and includes little treasures that you just want to take in. This year I've decided to cultivate my own sense of style. I've always wanted to grow my own nails and get wonderful manicures. My sis, Ash spotted a woman whose nails were simply out of this world. She asked her what she used, and the woman replied that she uses OPI Nail Envy. It's a nail strengthener that works wonders. After researching further, it seems there are no real cons to this product, so I cannot wait to try it. Along with this, I want to continue collecting vintage accessories with stories and memories attached to them! Drink loads of water, and become the healthiest as is possible!

Crazy Beautiful Twenty Eleven

The year Twenty Eleven is going to be my best year yet. Why? Because I've decided to literally snatch my life by the throat and give it the best go I can! There are so many places I see myself...so many dreams and 11:11's that I'm tired of keeping to myself. In the coming month's, God Willing, I will put my focus on Him, and concentrate on speaking my life into existence.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

The Word of God says that so a man thinks, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). It is so important that the mind be renewed in order for the wonderful life that God has for you to be realized. Ever notice how confident, efervescent individuals tend to draw opportunities, great friends, and conquered goals?

With this in mind, I have abandoned the dreaded New Year's resolution list and instead taken on what I call a Life Book. It's my journal of infectious positivity, dreams, meanderings, pictures, and quotes that will edify and gird me on my journey to driving myself away from mediocrity.

What do you want to do this year? Explore the far reaches of your mind and heart, write those dreams down, and prepare yourself to receive all that you desire this year!

Tips on living a Forelsket life:

- Gratefulness: Be moved by the crazy beautiful moments in your life! Always be thankful for the many blessings you have around you. Nothing's too small. Perhaps dedicate a sheet of paper or a notebook to listing everything you're grateful for, then you can look back on it if you need reminding.

-Quit Overthinking: I am a serious overthinker. But I've learned that it is a key link in overwhelment and negativity. Nothing is too big, or grand for God to handle, and because He's in control, you can handle it all!

-Journal with pastings of goals, quotes, proactive chimera, sayings that inspire a better you.

-Positivity: I'm going to put my best foot forward and commit to eliminating all negativity from my vocabulary. Sometimes it seems we all give more play to all of the negativity that flies our way, than we are willing to give the positive alternate a chance.

-Speak Over Yourself: Your words are very important. Proclaim every wonderful word about yourself. You are beautiful, you can achieve any and everything you set your heart to do, you are wonderful and lovely....the list goes on! Don't just think these things, believe them and speak them. You'll be surprised how your thoughts and actions will change with your words!

-Vent positively: Get it all out, release it, 'Keep Calm, and Carry On.'

-Tackle it all: Allow God to help you overcome all previous fears, hang ups, or anything else that's stopped you from living the life you've always dreamed of!

-Extend Yourself: Look around. There are so many people to befriend, to help, to move with your story. Remember this as you go about your life! Want more inspiration? Check out Insignificant Things.

-Crazy/Beautiful Additions: Remember the small things that make you smile. It could be a soothing bath, a favorite flavored tea, an old independent bookstore, whatever suits your fancy. Make these moments a habit!

It's been a whole week since the New Year started! I'm sure you've compiled your New Years resolutions, but I hope by the end of the year, you can say that you've accomplished most, if not all of your aspirations for the year!

Whimsy Geniuses, my Life List for next year!

I will cooperate with the Lord, and allow Him to show me how intimate my relationship with Him can be.

I will write my novel. For once and for all!

At first, my 2011 hairstyle was going to be a very short seeming boy-cut. Now I've decided to keep it long, get a trim, and make it quirky with bangs. Stay tuned.

Red lips. It's one of the strongest colors a woman can glaze across her lips, next to onyx night. I'll find the color right for my skin tone, and rock it!

I will make this new year, my year of fashion discovery! It will no longer be something I just happen to do, but more of an artistic expression!

I must purchase at least two pairs of 'sex popping' heels!

As a random quirk in my year, I will learn to play the Ukulele. Possibly harass you all with videos of my progress!

I will fall in love this year. And I might listen to one Taylor Swift song a day. I love her simplistic lyricism, and how she manages to imbue happiness into every note.

There is something so beautiful about an artist in their workspace. On and off point, documenting my time in Wales with my flip camera has revealed a desire in me to document moments in gorgeous ways through film. The studio footage inspired that side of me! Who's eagerly awaiting 21 (Adele's new album out February 22, 2011)? I am! She's coming to Manchester next year, and I'm so excited that if I wanted to, I could go!

Lolita Clutch

Moving right along with my Black Swan themed night, Natalie Portman looked really beautiful in her gothic themed ensemble for the premiere. But the capture of my eye is this adorable Lolita clutch bag! Is this not the most gorgeous literary themed purse? I would love the clutch to represent a different novel, although Nabokov is one of my favorite writers. Perhaps, a Jane Austen novel, or certainly On the Road by Jack Kerouac, Romeo and Juliet, or even dare I say...Twilight! I adore her ring as well!

The costumes and cinematography of the movie Black Swan has to be some of the best of 2010! Darren Aronofsky never ceases to amaze me with his ability to turn reality into a surreal mind-binding universe that I'm intrigued to encounter but once there I'm not sure if I made the right choice. He's one filmmaker that inspires me to want to venture into the world of film. I love all of the possibilities and dreams he brings to life. Most of his movies are so obscure that they need a second, and perhaps, third watch. However, in the midst of obscurity, the films themselves are an art-form! I have yet to watch the movie, but I have been a bit mystified by the trailer!

Ballet is one of the most beautiful expressions of dance in existence. There's something so gorgeous about pointe shoes, fluidity and ornate costumes. Yet, there is something haunting about the discipline one needs to employ to achieve the body and skill to balance your weight on your toes. The life of a ballerina seems a bit like a surreal fairy tale to me. I love the thought of incorporating little details from this world into fashion to give it a bit of a whimsical feel. Ballet flats, blouses,dresses or skirts with a bit of lace and tulle, a minature tiara, and perhaps (if you're daring) a masquerade mask and dramatic gothic makeup would be an ideal for an outfit inspired by Black Swan!

Moleskine Passions: Book Journal

Hello Dreamers! I had to take a bit of a blogging break to gather my thoughts and refuel. Now, I'm back with one of my favorite new bibliophile obsessions: Moleskine Passions- Book Journal. I never intended to get a book journal, nor have I ever really thought to keep an entire diary of my favorite books, but one trip to a wonderful bookstore changed all of that! I was standing on the line to purchase my latest reads at the moment, and I picked up the journal. Once I got it home, and started fiddling with its tags, labels, and sections, I was hooked!

The Book journal is lovely! Six pages to each letter to fill in notes, jot down stories, moments, paste pictures, publishing facts and more on your favorite books. It also contains over 100 fully customizable pages in the back, including sections you make yourselves with the labels Moleskine provides. You even get a nifty bookmark!

As with all of my Moleskine journals, I'm thinking of cool ways to decorate it, and really make it an experience to look back on. Quirks like: what beverage best goes along with this book, what time of day/weather to read it in, where it's best read...etc. If you have anymore cool ideas on what to include to make this book journal exciting, feel free to comment! Also, I've considered making each entry a proper Forelsket column to add to my literary world here!

Jolly Read

Hello Dreamers! I know it has been so long since I've posted, but I'm back now with one of my favorite Christmas reads. I found How Mrs. Claus Saved Christmas some years back when I caroused Barnes and Noble in search of something fun and festive to read during the holidays! The title made me think of classic Christmas cartoons, like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Charlie Brown Christmas, but the experience of reading it was a bit different.

Within its pages you meet, Layla, the woman who becomes Mrs. Claus. She has a huge heart, and a desire to be more than society has boxed her in to be. When she meets Nicholas, she stops aging, and enters the world of helping, and bringing joy to others. This novel contains loads of historical facts, and nuggets that makes the journey so awesome to go on. And one really special thing that I love about this book, is that the Claus's an all who work with them have faith in God. They acknowledge Him as the One who has given them the power to do what they do! That was such an astounding thing to see in a book like this!

The unfortunate thing is I've never finished the book, and not because it didn't deserve it! I'll endeavor to finish it this year!

There are so many awesome stories out there like The Polar Express, and others, that just evoke such a chimeric feeling of love, joy, miracles, and faith that God calls us to live everyday. At some point in my writing life, I would love to write this epic Christmas story that makes us all feel like children again, and inspires us to dream, and help others!

I pray that this season is filled with joy, peace, and miracles only Jesus can fill you with!

This year, I'll grab my steaming cup of chai, a blanket, and snuggle up with this novel! I might even try to bake the Candy Cane Pie recipe that the novel raves about!

First Diana + Dreamer Snaps- (IMAGE HEAVY)

I own a Diana+ Dreamer, as I mentioned a few posts back, and I adore it. Sure, it's not the camera I'd use everyday, due to it being a bit complicated to find 120mm film and a developer everywhere. But I did use it once! I decided to try out some black and white film in my 'Sis' Ash's neighborhood. If I didn't do it then, I would never have had the courage to take it out. Many of us have this thought that because we aren't photography student's or professionals, we wouldn't be good photographers. But, I say pisht, to all that! That's one of the things I adore about Lomography. They encourage you to get out there, and use your camera in the most unconventional ways. Why? Because it's your world you'll experience, not someone else's! Any one of their camera's are a lot like finding home in a moleskine, or other journal of your choosing. The great thing is that you never know what surprises will develop with the film! It's always lovely! So here are a few of my first Diana+ snaps!

I'm sure nothing feels greater, after a long trip away from home, than for a warm welcome back! That's what T Mobile had in mind for the incoming passengers of Heathrow Airport. They assembled a 300 person choir turned orchestra, to jump out there, and give the few who caught the act, a welcome back they wouldn't have dreamed of!

This goes under my happy list of the day, and will be a Forelsket Favorite! Celebrate your life! Please watch, it will brighten up your day! (<------Glee fans can't miss this!)

Hmm...Would I? Absolutely! I consider myself a very 'literarious' shopper. I love finding interesting ways to include writing into my lifestyle. For those of you who love the fragrance of old libraries, and browning pages, its quite possible this might be the scent for you! I've never smelled it, but I would gladly purchase this perfume just to see if it lives up to its charm. Paperback retails for $20 (1 oz.- please refer to their website for other sizes and prices! It's created by a company called Demeter Fragrance. Feel free to search through their library of fragrances; there are so many unconventional perfumes that I might not be able to resist for much longer!

THIS IS NOT A HATE POST!

I'm shaking my head right now because I knew that I would eventually end up taking back the scathing review of my first read, and giving it another shot. Why? Because it's been so disappointing to believe that the last book, the one we'd all been waiting for, was such...a disheartening mess. Its hard, coming from the Twi-Crazed history I have.

Now, I wont go into details of everything I hated, because, there's no point. But, I hope that after reading it again, I see things differently! Perhaps, I can be reformed. I have friends who think that this book was the very best one in the series, and it makes me wonder if we read the same novel.

Being a girl, of course I already LOVED reading about Edward and Bella getting married, and making love for the first time! So with that love in mind, I'll forge forward.

What did you think of the novel? Yay or Nay? Encourage me! :-).

I'm not going to pretend that these last couple of weeks haven't been saturated with worry. As you can imagine, with intense worrying comes sickness, anxious stomach cramps, and a mind that just won't stop for breath. It's horrible. But when I get this way, it shows me that I've taken my eyes off of the One who's fit to carry these burdens. I've 'decided' that somehow these situations are bigger than the One who can blow these cares away with a single breath. It sad to say, but I've even turned to Him and basically accused Him of making my life this way; Yet, all the while He was looking lovingly down at me and asking:

'Daughter, why won't you trust Me? Have I ever steered you wrong, or not had your greatest good at heart? Stop placing your mind on things that are too heavy for you to handle. Trust that I've got you. Stop making big things of little matters. Stop carrying the yolk of bondage just because you feel you need something to hold on to. Stop placing these things over me. Instead come to me, let me love you, accept my forgiveness, and take me on, because I am Light. I died for you, so do not even let thoughts come into your mind that I don't have your very best at heart. Take me on, and yield your everything. Only then will you enter into a place of stillness, peace...rest.'
